X

Description

If you’ve ever been interested in printmaking but are not sure where to start, this course will give you a taster of several different types of printmaking, as well as giving you room to experiment! Each Tuesday afternoon over four weeks we will learn the basics of monoprint, lino printing, drypoint and collagraph to discover the different techniques. The goal is to sample a different types of printmaking each week and to understand the various materials and methods that can be used for each. This is not a step by step course to all end up with the same picture(s). Instead you will be shown how to create your own designs and to explore the different options that can be used to make them into handmade prints. I have plenty of materials to help if you are stuck for inspiration! Printmaking does not require you to have good drawing or painting skills. It simply requires you to have a go! I'm Karen Sargeant and my workshop (Sargeant's Mess) is based on a small wildlife-friendly farm with a house that dates back to the 1600s, in rural Cheshire. I teach very small groups in a fun and relaxed environment. We do have two very curious cats so please be prepared to meet them! If you have any questions, please contact me via the 'message the tutor' button before you book – particularly if you have any accessibility or health requirements. Please note: you will need a car to get here as there is no public transport available.

Hello, I’m Karen Sargeant and with my husband Mark, we run a small farm at The Barracks, focusing on wildlife alongside productive farming. The farm features herbal leys, wild ponds, billowing hedges, newly introduced woodland, wildflower meadow and a willow bed. In summer cows from a neighbouring farmer are grazed in the fields. My career background is in magazines and in the past I have worked for Artists & Illustrators and Painting World magazines. Alongside writing and editing I have always enjoyed art and crafting hobbies and The Barracks has given me a gorgeous location in which to share those hobbies with others. Our goal is to offer workshops to small groups, using the house, barns, gardens and fields to provide creative inspiration and spaces to work. No matter what your level of experience or talent, you are welcome here to come and play, experiment, celebrate mistakes and most of all have fun. You will not be judged and not all classes are designed with a specific goal in mind. Art as mindfulness, therapeutic time out or catharsis is always present and enhanced by the beautiful natural surroundings, but our main goal is to use enjoyment and friendship as a gateway to endless inspiration. Have fun!
