Coffee, Cake, 'n' Craft - Marsh Wet Felt Bag in New Romney, Kent

X

Description

This hands-on felt-making workshop introduces you to both wet felting and needle felting techniques through the creation of a practical, hand-felted bag inspired by the Romney Marsh. You will learn how to build structure, surface texture and decorative detail using wool fibres, resulting in a finished piece that is both durable and full of character. The session begins with wet felting, where you will layer wool onto a bag base and use water and soap to felt the fibres into a strong fabric. This forms the foundation of your design and gives the bag its structure and strength. Once the base is complete, you will move on to needle felting, adding detail and depth through landscape elements such as Romney sheep, wildflowers and simple countryside features. You will be guided step by step throughout the process, from planning your design and laying out fibres to refining details and finishing your bag. The combination of techniques allows you to work on both the overall surface and the finer elements, giving you creative control while learning skills that can be developed further at home. Suitable for beginners as well as those with some experience of felting, the workshop is held in a small-group setting as part of our Coffee, Cake, ’n’ Craft series. The pace is relaxed, with plenty of individual guidance and time to work comfortably while enjoying a friendly, sociable atmosphere. All tools and materials are provided.
