Friday mornings 9.30am - 12.30pm Start Date: 8th September End Date: 15th December (no class 27th October for half term) ABOUT THIS EVENT Join Teresa Crickmar for a twelve-week small-scale silversmithing course that offers everything for a beginner to learn the basics. This is a dedicated course just for silversmithing techniques. It runs for twelve weeks with a break mid-way for half term. The first half of the course will concentrate on acquiring basic skills which will then lead on to a more creative six weeks where you will be encouraged to find your own designs and projects. If you would like to learn how to cut, form and texture metal to make stunning objects, other than jewellery (but not always), then this is the course for you. We will explore forging, doming, hammering, soldering and mark making. The items you might like to make could include candlesticks, spoons, dishes, cups and boxes. There are a limited number of spaces so please do get in touch to reserve your bench. Teresa is a sought-after tutor. She creates a fun, relaxed atmosphere to learn in and oozes positivity. Learners join her classes a little unsure and sometimes not at all confident but quickly catch the bug with her ample enthusiasm for jewellery making. You will gain the skills to make beautiful, professional-looking work that will receive lots of compliments. Teresa believes the design element of making should be as important as the piece itself and so if you have ideas, or are inspired by others work please share this before you start so that she can adjust the course content. Small tailored courses give you just what you want. Teresa will give you an idea of the materials and processes needed right from the outset before you even start making! Her work can be seen in Primavera Gallery, Cambridge.. She shares her time between being a mother, wife, cockerpoo mummy, home renovator, a Reiki practitioner, adult education tutor and a jewellery designer/maker. This 42-hour course runs for three hours per week for fourteen weeks with a maximum class size of five.

Initial base metals will be provided to use as will equipment and tools however further metal will need to be purchased in addition to course fees.

Everything you will need is here, however if you use reading glasses for close up work, don't forget them. Some students find it useful to bring a notebook to sketch and make notes. Following a conversation on the first week you will be encouraged to order your silver and stones for following lessons with guidance of what, where and when.

A good level of hand-eye coordination is needed to complete fine work using torches, saws and electronic motors. You will need to be able to move safely in a workshop environment and be able to follow clear instructions easily. You must adhere to the health and safety aspects of using the equipment as demonstrated.
Of course, this means you haven't learned any bad habits! You are most welcome and it will not be long before you're making beautiful work.
