Powertex Raven, Owl, Penguin or Puffin- Fabric Sculpture - by Inky Escapades

X

Description

Please note this is a two-session workshop. The colouring needs to be completed either the following day or a few days later, as the feathers will be too wet to complete on the first day. Come and create this fabulous 3D raven, owl, penguin or puffin using powertex to fabric sculpt the finish, we will be using recycled fabrics. Anyone with a reasonable degree of dexterity and patience can create this. No experience is necessary. Please reach out via the 'message the tutor' button to discuss which of the sculptures you would prefer to create. If more than one person is attending, and the choices are different for each person, this will result in a longer workshop. This is due to each sculpture differing in structural design, so will obviously need extra explanation. If this is the case, then there will be extra fees to be paid on the day, if the course runs over the usual time frame. The raven and the owl are the most time consuming of the four sculptures, and may suit someone with a little more experience of Powertex, but not necessarily, as long as you have a great deal of patience. I will lead you through creating the armature and then adding fabric and fabric feathers (all fabrics are recycled), sometimes we have to resort to tweezers to add the feathers for the raven. The penguin is a bit easier, as there are no feathers to add, the owl and the puffin have a lot of feathers. We will use a little stone art clay for the beak and eyes in each of the styles of sculpture. You will need to return for a 2.5-hour colouring session to finish the raven, owl, or penguin, allowing the fabric to dry completely. On this and session I will show you how to colour the raven, owl, penguin or puffin using pigments and water based varnish (this is the 'wow' factor). Let me introduce you to the wonderful world of powertex. It is a water based, non toxic and environmentally friendly universal medium. It is a liquid essentially, a paint and glue combined, and it is a fabric hardener, used to create 2D or 3D sculptures. Where possible, I use recycled products and recycled fabrics. I haunt the charity shops for 100% cotton clothes to use in my artworks. I also use broken jewellery and often re-cycle and re-purpose many items. I will supply all materials, including gloves and aprons, since powertex is a messy, but extremely creative business. I will guide you through the construction/creation of the piece and the colouring process. Workshops start at 10am, we will take a break when all the wet work is done, so they can be dried off. In single day workshops we then start the colouring: this is where the magic happens! Sometimes workshops exceed the finish time by as much as an hour so please allow for this when booking.

My Powertex workshops will give you a window into your own personal creativity. I will offer you the tools and instruction to create fabulous works of art; beware though as Powertex is a very addictive hobby and you may find yourself consumed by its magic.
