Having been given a piece of clay when I was 6 years old, I knew what I wanted to do. My dad thought I needed a "proper job" and I became a secretary. Soon I wanted to go back to college and study for my degree. A local pottery offered me a job as a thrower and after several years employed I was able to and given the opportunity to open my own studio. Teaching and sharing my knowledge about clay and all its workings on the potter's wheel and hand building are now paramount to Siramik.
"Found this experience far better than I thought I might! Yoka is a lovely teacher, very clear with her instructions. You learn about the clay and some of the process at the start which I appreciated. Then onto throwing the 4 or 5 pots, each one becoming slightly easier. Reflecting on the morning afterwards, realised that it's Yoka herself who really delivers such a fun and inspiring morning. I'm not surprised her full courses are well booked in advance! I want to do it again!! "
"The course is amazing. I got the day experience as a birthday present for the girlfriend and now I’m into pottery.
Although I only did the 1 day course. I am considering doing the lessons when work gives me some time off.
The venue has amazing views and easy to find (with the helpful instructions). The experience alone is worth it, but I can’t wait to bring my pots back. I can’t recommend it enough. "
Siramik responded:
"Hello Callum,
Wasn't it a fun day! The course should really come with a health warning because if you get hooked on pottery, you might well be building yourself a studio for your potter's wheel and kiln. Thank you for your kind words, I always hope that participants of the courses get the best of me and try to convey a bit of my passion onto my students. Now it will be waiting for the pots to dry and be fired. Thank you again for the morning companion."
"Had a marvellous class. Good fun. I will recommend this to friends. I will go again."
Siramik responded:
"Thank you for your kind words, yes, you did have lots of fun and your lovely pots are a great proof of that. As a teacher it is lovely to see your wonderful results, you were grasping the concept of throwing pots really well. Thank you for sharing the morning with us."
"Brilliant half day course with Yoka. Learnt so much and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Very informative, but also very adaptive for right and left handiness, plus very accommodating for mine and my daughter's disabilities. Would recommend anyone to have a go. Stunning setting."
