Founded in 1906, we are a family firm with shops in York and Harrogate. We specialise in haberdashery and needlecrafting materials and workshops, with an international reputation for stocking over 10,000+ different button designs. Our classes are held in a beautiful beamed room at the top of our medieval building in York and in the Yorkshire town of Ilkley in a converted Victorian double-fronted shop. They are taught by practicing designers and makers with considerable expertise in (and passion for) their respective crafts, and considerable teaching experience.
"A lovely venue....
Course was well prepared and all equipment provided.
Tutor very friendly and knowledgeable.
Only downside was the only sink available was in the loo...so made it unusable while cleaning going on.... Would recommend."
"A lovely way to spend a cold, wintry afternoon- good company, excellent tuition and some lovely Christmas decorations to take home"
Duttons for Buttons responded:
"Thank you so much for the lovely review. We’re so pleased you enjoyed it. We look forward to seeing you again in the new year and wish you all the best over the festive season. "
"As a knitter who has not ventured into complex projects, the in person course has given me the confidence to knit socks on four needles, with the dexterity and shaping - thinking in three dimensions - that requires. The teacher was able to address the problems we all encountered, not having done this before, offering advice and encouragement. I don't think you can get this from on line teaching. "
Duttons for Buttons responded:
"Hi Louise, so pleased you enjoyed the workshop and as a result have got to grips with the complexities of four needle knitting - an achievement to be truly proud of! Look out for more from Judith in 2024 when she plans to teach brioche, fair isle & cable knitting as well as sock knitting. Best wishes, Duttons for Buttons"
