This is a ten week course which will be held the same time and day each week. Blend two beautiful forms of expression by dipping your brush into the world of watercolour calligraphy! The journey begins with the basics—grasping the art of brush strokes, understanding the flow of watercolours, and getting acquainted with various calligraphy styles. As you progress, you'll discover the magic of combining vibrant hues with the graceful strokes of calligraphy, creating letters that dance on the paper. The course isn't just about technique; it's a celebration of creativity and self-expression. We'll introduce you to the multiple ways to incorporate colour into your brush lettering. We'll cover blending, working with washes, discovering degrees of transparency, ombré effects and building up the depth of colour within your calligraphy - all using the humble paintbrush! Week 1 The Foundations of Brush Calligraphy and controlling the brush. An introduction to creating letters with a water brush and paintbrush. How hard to press and where to change the pressure. Week 2 Understanding alphabets and how to alter the style of your lettering. Week 3 Mixing your colours, colour terms, experiments and using colour effectively. Week 4 Using colour theory to create lettering compositions. Week 5 Creative background washes, water control and exploring different effects. Week 6 Combining calligraphy layouts with colour washes. Week 7 Create beautiful loose watercolour florals to decorate your work. Week 8 Combining calligraphy and Illustration. Creating borders and decorations. Week 9 Constructing a Wreath and composing a finished piece, sketches and stages of a design. Week 10 Completing the final piece incorporating a wash, wreath, border or another decorative element. Your full kit ticket will include a Van Gogh watercolour palette, a waterbrush, a pipette, 2 watercolour paintbrushes, washi tape, goldline watercolour paper and Langton Prestige watercolour paper along with the worksheets.
