Gracias - Needlelace with Knots A masterclass with Adriana Torres (of Miga de Pan) In June 2023 in Åalborg, Denmark, Adriana came across a beautifully coloured foxglove with a bee entering a tulip and, from this meeting, two characters emerged in a garden. During this one-of-a-kind workshop you will learn how to embroider with knots to create tall raised textures and wonderfully illustrative three-dimensional textiles. This heritage stumpwork technique was originally created using wooden tools that are no longer available, and so Adriana has developed a way to reproduce the same effect without the need for those instruments. The class will follow a set three-dimensional image, embroidered almost entirely with variations of the same traditional stitch that Adriana has come to understand over ten years of study and exploration. You will also learn two stitches that Adriana has developed herself along the way, as well as her own technique of creating a color gradient in needle lace. Skill level: Intermediate to advanced. It is necessary for participants to know how to embroider the Stem stitch and the Back stitch. About the tutor: Adriana Torres was born in Argentina. She studied Architecture and Graphic Design at the University of Buenos Aires, and is also a student of fine art, illustration, drawing, painting and pottery. She is a celebrated textile artist and embroidery educator who established Miga de Pan; an award-winning company making exquisite handmade dolls, toys and blankets for children and adults who love unique design. Adriana always dreamed of travelling for work and has taught embroidery classes all over the world. in 2024 she will teach a series of workshops across America, Europe and Asia. We are delighted to be hosting her on her UK leg of the tour.

What's included in the price?

Course participants will receive a piece of printed fabric with the design inspired by her trip to Denmark, threads, needles and a handmade book with explanations of the stitches and key tips so you can finish the embroidery at home. Please bring your own scissors and a 25cm embroidery hoop.
