Description

A day-long circular weaving workshop for beginners between 10am - 4pm in the beautiful setting of Fisherton Mill in Salisbury. Weaving in the round is a lovely, mindful form of weaving requiring minimal and inexpensive equipment. Circular looms can be used to weave wall hangings, coasters, place mats, bunting, cushion covers and much more. WHAT TO EXPECT The workshop will teach you the basic principles and terminology of weaving in the round, and you will create a small woven piece using an embroidery hoop as a loom. We will cover the following: How to pick the best yarns for weaving How to dress the loom (prepare the loom for weaving) Basic weaving and techniques for texture and pattern Lots of weaving! How to secure your band and remove it from the loom Spaces are limited to ensure so you receive as much guidance as you need. This workshop is suitable for complete beginners and those that have a little weaving experience and would like to try weaving on a less conventional 'loom'. You will have the opportunity to buy a hoop and yarn at the the end of the workshop. WHAT TO BRING Fisherton Mill has a wonderful cafe where you can purchase your lunch, cakes and drinks, however if you'd prefer to bring a packed lunch, please feel free to do so.

The course price includes 6 hours of guided tuition, use of the looms and all materials including yarns and fibres You will be given your own clear workshop handouts to take away with you. You will receive a 20% discount on the lunch menu from the Fisherton Mill Gallery Cafe on the day of the workshop.

Ellie Fisher is a textile designer with a foundation in textiles from Winchester School of Art and a BA and MA from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. With over 15 years of weaving experience she is passionate about sharing her love of textiles.

"Fabulous two day table loom workshop, from warping to cloth. A well structured two days with clear instructions, and an opportunity for each participant to go at our own pace. Ellie is very patient and has a way of keeping things simple and easy to understand, which meant the task of warping the 4 shaft loom was a calm and enjoyable experience and one that I feel confident that I could repeat independently. The class size of 3 meant we all got so much support and guidance. Once the loom was dressed, the second day was spent exploring weaving patterns. All materials were included in the course fee and we were spoilt for choice. I was delighted that beautiful naturally dyed threads were available to use as well as organic cotton and linens. I am so pleased I invested in this two days, definitely great value and a good kick start for anyone wanting to get into weaving. Thank you Ellie! "

"I had a wonderful evening with Ellie and several other people in a lovely setting where we were served green teas and raw mint cake. It was gorgeous. The class itself was excellent. We all had a great time and produced work that were all so different from each others but all really artistic and lovely to see. I loved the introduction to the art of weaving. Ellie was really attentive to each of us and a great teacher. I am really proud of what I achieved and of course purchased the loom I was using so I could do more on my own.
