Description

How to sew a box cushion cover (for bench seating or armchairs) – One day class Dates: Friday 14th of June & Saturday 22nd June Time: 09.30 till 4.30 (including a 30 min lunch break at 1pm) Please be prepared for the class to run on until later so that you can finish your project. A box cushion cover completes a seat pad on an armchair. Bench seat cushions can be a great way of creating more seating inside or outside your home. Inside a window recess, on top of a wooden bench or on a purpose-built kitchen banquette! The aim of the class is to demonstrate how to plan, cut and sew a simple fabric cover with zip and optional piping edge to fit over a piece of foam cut to the size you require (should be no wider than 0.8m sq). If you would like us to cut a piece of foam for you please give us 3 weeks’ notice. This class is suitable for anyone with basic sewing machine skills. If you have a sewing machine that you like to use, please bring it along. We have three industrial machines in the workshop and an overlocker which you can use. If you would like to make fabric covered piping for your cover we sell it at 0.30p per metre and it is available in the class. Please bring with you: • A piece of foam cut to size • A piece of fabric (suitable weight for upholstery)** • Sewing machine, spare needles, threads and piping foot (if preferred) • Notepad and pencil • Packed lunch We have a small kitchen/dining facility within the workshop where you can use a fridge, microwave and kettle. There are a number of food shops and eateries locally in the Gorge or in the village centre where you can pick up food for lunch. We provide tea/coffee and biscuits and usually break around 11am and 3pm. Please be prepared to stand at your bench or cutting tables most of the day so comfortable shoes are a must. The workshop is heated but you may wish to bring warm clothing on very cold days. All our classes at Pretty Sitting are designed to give students professional standard teaching in small groups. So, places are always limited, but we run a programme of classes throughout the year and hopefully you can find dates that suit. Your tutor is Jill Humphrey, AMUSF, qualified master upholsterer and soft furnisher. Jill is also the owner and managing director of Pretty Sitting.
