Eco-Print with Natural Dyes in the Lake District

X

Description

This is a follow on day for those who have completed Caroline’s previous beginner’s Botanical Eco-print Day (see our listing for 3rd July at the bottom of the page), or for those with a little eco-print experience. You need to be able to get crisp prints, know how to use barriers and steam your bundles, and have a basic understanding of mordants. Please contact us if you have any queries. You will learn how to combine eco-print with natural dyes, using two different techniques, to get botanical prints with beautiful coloured backgrounds. Your tutor, Caroline, has a lifetime’s experience of working with textiles, but after discovering eco-print and natural dyes eight years ago she has worked almost exclusively with these. Her work has been exhibited in a number of galleries and she has a worldwide reputation as an ecoprint teacher having run workshops in Greece, Italy, Morocco, France and the Azores. By the end of the workshop you will know how to: Mordant protein fabrics Make a dye bath Use an iron blanket or dye blanket Understand how leaf, dye and mordant interact Work in a way that is safe for you and the environment Care for your dyed and printed fabrics

What's included in the price?

All materials are provided including foliage and fabric but there is a materials charge of £20 made payable direct to the tutor. You are welcome to bring leaves from your own garden too – advice will be sent before the workshop about choice of leaves. A homemade two course lunch and refreshments will be served during the day.
