Description

Elaine Hobden is a Textile Artist and Dressmaking Tutor.  Elaine has been making garments since her school days and has made most of her clothes throughout her life! Elaine is trained in hand embroidery, fashion, and dressmaking, and has had her work exhibited in the London and Harrogate Knitting and Stitch shows. Elaine is also an active and avid member of the Winchester Textiles and Embroidery Group.

What's included in the price?

What will I learn? Over the course of the 5 weeks, you will develop your knowledge and confidence in sewing, leaving the course with the techniques and skills you need to continue to make your own garments at home. - Week 1 - Learning how to use your sewing machine, taking measurements and learning to read, understand and adapt a pattern. Learn how to take measurements. - Week 2 - Bring in your choice of fabric and pattern to cut ready to start stitching next week! - Week 3 - Learning how to create seams, machine hems, buttonholes and zips with a professional finish. - Weeks 4 and 5 - You will be supported through your individual process and needs, and provided with the best advice and guidance to develop your garment. You will create at least one gorgeous garment of your choice and will have learned many basic skills to continue making your own garments. What should I bring? - Bring your own sewing machine.  Your machine must be a standard domestic machine in good working order.  Your machine will need to be PAT tested in advance of the course.  Please liaise with The Dart Centre Team to arrange this. - Your own fabric and thread.  A basic sewing kit would prove useful, the cost of which will vary according to your project.

The Dart is a community venue for all ages who wish to engage with arts, crafts and music. Our centre-run courses are led by professional practitioners or artists in hour long, half or full day workshops, including children’s holiday activities and cookery courses.  We encourage local artists to exhibit in our foyer, sell work or perform at open mic nights. The Dart boasts specialist rooms for dance, drama, art and music which are available for hire throughout the evenings and weekends.
