3-week Oil Painting Course with Lou Thomas - Textured Seascapes or Landscapes for beginners in oils over three weekly sessions. "Lots of fun, worth every penny. Looking forward to booking again. " - Lauren This stimulating new course is an inspiring way for artists with some experience to discover the secrets to creating beautiful landscapes and seascapes in oil paints. This course is suitable for students of any ability including those with no experience of oil painting and those who have painted previously but simply want to explore textured painting techniques. Lou will guide you through the preparation stages of creating a textured work with a sea or mountain theme in week one; applying paint and using dispersal techniques in week two; and in the final week finishing and fine tuning the details of the painting. Each session will take 2 hours. At the end of the three weeks you will have a complete textured oil painting which, after another two to three weeks drying can be varnished using “Re-touch varnish” and framed. No previous oil painting experience is necessary; also suitable for those already painting looking to improve their skills - Step by step demonstrations and critiques - Subject matter taken from Lou's own photographs - Small class sizes - Widely spaced, sanitized workspaces; aprons provided - Materials and refreshments are included The Course Structure covers: Week one - introduction to oil painting materials; drawing the subject on to your canvas panel; application of texture pastes Week two - masking, applying paints to selected areas Week three - painting the sky, adding fine details, finishing, and a discussion on how to varnish after 2-3 weeks' drying time You are asked to bring: - Your own oil paint brushes if you have them - Rags for cleaning - Old clothes - A flat tray (like a fruit box) to convey your work home) plus old newspapers This class is led by Lou Thomas, a highly respected and widely-collected painter. Lou's mountain scenes and seascapes are much admired, with a style that incorporates much texture and movement. Lou has been painting almost all her life and is delighted to be sharing her skills and love of oil painting with you!

Sadly not - due to the nature of the materials our classes are for adults only.

Yes.
With all one-day and longer stained glass classes we include an info pack with details of the tools you've used and suppliers plus reminders of techniques used. This isn't included in half-day classes.
We'll be delighted to help you decided what's needed.

For fusing classes we're happy to advise on tools, materials and kilns on request.

Materials are included in all beginners classes - fusing and stained glass.
Please bring reading glasses if you use them, and sturdy fully enclosed shoes (no sandals).
Aprons, googles and gloves are provided where needed.

Because you will be using lead and solder containing lead on stained glass classes.
Lead is known to pose a higher risk to babies than to adults.

We welcome participating friends or partners.
Sadly there isn't room at most classes for non-participating friends or partners.

Of course!
Fused glass will need to be collected after firing - we will contact you when ready.

This depends on which class you're planning to book.
For stained glass classes - it will be difficult to complete the class if you have severe arthritis or similar.

For fused glass classes - we suggest you choose a class which doesn't involve glass cutting - feel free to contact us to discuss.

If the class you're planning to book is described as 'for beginners' then yes!
Some of our classes are for improvers - these are described as such in the listing.

We have GF and Vegan biscuits in stock normally.
We will bring in non-dairy milk if advised in advance.

Lunches, where included, are provided by the Bell Cafe nearby which caters for intolerances, vegetarians and vegans.
