Alice Hume is a Textile Artist based at Portsmouth Museum & Art Gallery. In 2013 she graduated from Winchester School of Art with a degree in Woven Textile Design. Vanderhume comes from her ancestry of Flemish Weavers. Alice pushes the boundaries of weaving and uses unusual materials of copper yarn and raffia on her 8-shaft Harris Loom. After Graduating Alice and her father collaborated to make handmade frame looms called Hume Looms from recycled wood which she uses to teach weave workshops.
"Loved this! Alice is a great teacher, explaining as you go and suggesting different techniques to try which is exactly what I wanted as an introduction. Huge range of wools to choose from. Definitely thinking of going back for a second day."
"I spent a lovely relaxing day on this beginners' weaving course and enjoyed every minute. Alice is a great tutor who explained everything clearly and fully and was patient while I grasped the basics. The day covered everything I had wanted to learn, how to set up the loom, how to weave with different colours and patterns and how to finish the piece of work. I am now ready to practise alone but would love to do another workshop. The venue is excellent, close to public transport links in Portsmouth's Historic Dockyard. A great day, thoroughly recommended. "
"What a lovely relaxing day and you lose yourself in weaving which is wonderful. Alice is a great teacher, kind and patient. She taught a variety of weave stitches and we all made beautiful weaves.
Thank you Alice!
