Maker's bio

I have been making candles for some years and always had a keen interest in the English countryside. Having retired I decided to create a range of fragrance products based on that theme. All our candles are hand-crafted to the highest standards. Our Will-o-the-Wisp brand has gained a reputation for both quality and fragrance. I regularly hold candle making tutorials at our workshop in the heart of the Ashdown Forest, East Sussex. I hope you find our tutorials both enjoyable and informative.

Helen reviewed: Soap making course (beginner) - in the heart of the Ashdown Forest, Sussex

"After having two 'courses' local to me cancelled, I drove 2 hours each way to Ashdown Forest. Simon's intention of the 'course' was to demonstrate soap-making with lye but have participants only make soaps with melt and pour - which is easy to do at home. I wanted the lye experience which he did let me do - but without any safety equipment - no gloves or goggles. I seemed to know more about soap-making than he did. He said he would send me the soaps we made but that was nearly 5 weeks ago and there is no sign of them. He has stopped replying to my queries about where they are. He also used tap water to make the soap - which is probably why another reviewer found the soaps lathered poorly. At least she got her soaps! So I went a long way and paid £65 for nothing. Absolutely not worth the time or money."

"Very practical advice from Simon. A fun day. I came away from the course with the confidence to try this myself at home. Thank you Simon."

T Brightwell reviewed: Soap making course (beginner) - in the heart of the Ashdown Forest, Sussex

"The soap course itself was run well - a good teacher (although we felt it was a long day for him as he had taught the earlier candle making course that day). It was interesting learning about how soap is made. However, on now having used the soaps - and distributed to friends and family the quality of the actual soap product is not at all good. Its a very low grade 'wash foam' soap. Very slippery in use !!!! but no foam to feel like you have actually washed ! I feel the cost does not justify the products made (:"

"This course was absolutely fantastic. We learnt so much in such a short time. Simon is a wonderful and fun teacher. We made lots of candles to take home. Thank you so much it was such a pleasure!"
