Maker's bio

The Studio @ Clapham is an inspiring and creative space. Located in the peaceful rural setting of the South Downs National Park with great views of the surrounding countryside, it is the perfect place to unwind. I offer short ‘project based’ pottery workshops for Adults and Children. I am a self-employed Ceramic Artist and a Ceramics Lecturer at Northbrook Met College. My approach is relaxed and informal, with an emphasis on having fun and being creative with clay.

"Jayne was very welcoming and creates a relaxed atmosphere which really helped with the experience. Clear instruction and a demonstration really helped and it was just the right balance of help and letting you have a go. In fact I spent a lot more time on the wheel than I imagined I would and managed 4 pots! Jayne is super encouraging and very calm, putting mistakes right and helping you achieve something to be proud of. Can’t wait to see how they look after firing. Highly recommend as a great intro and I think I’m hooked on looking at further ceramic experiences."

"I had a fantastic day with Jayne in her Studio making ornaments for the garden. The possibilities were endless but I settled on making some plant stake toppers, a sign for the shed and a toad to sit beside my pond. What great value for money this course is, had I gone out to purchase these things it would have cost a fortune and I wouldn’t have had anywhere near as much fun and satisfaction. I shall certainly be going back for more!"

"I recently spent a day with Jayne with 3 other friends on a workshop. It was quite simply amazing! Having had very little knowledge about Working with clay , I have come away feeling entirely capable and empowered to start making my own work, the techniques of it all now exciting rather than off-putting! I couldn't recommend Jayne as a teacher more; she's super knowledgable and great at explaining stuff, plus she's a lot of fun to hang out with, which makes for a lovely experience! If you're thinking about taking one of her workshops, just do it, you won't regret it!"

"As a special treat for our Mum, my sister and I booked in for a wheel pottery session. Wow it was the most relaxing other worldly thing I have done in a long time. Under Jayne’s expert guidance we created 3 beautiful pots each which Jayne fired in her amazing kiln. Thank you Jayne!"
