"This course is useful for sculptors of all abilities and experience. The model is viewed from all sides and the tutor provides guidance on approach without being overly structured, and, as in all art, one is constantly encouraged to look and look again. The tuition is encouraging and skillful, and the tutor has a good understanding of anatomy. The studio is well equipped has good natural light. It is encouraging to be working alongside others in a small group, who are supportive but not afraid to be critical."

"I spent a very enjoyable 3 days at the Sculpture Place. It was well organised by Sally and I met a lot of very interesting people. Miranda is an excellent teacher, very patient and encouraging. Highly recommended. It was a belated birthday present and one of the best ever!"

"I haven’t done any clay work since my school days nearly 40 years ago and so was a bit unsure of what to expect. However, Sally instantly made me feel very welcome and Miranda took an effective step by step approach for those of us with little or no experience. Likewise, those with far greater experience were given minimal but timely intervention if it was required and additional little tips to take things to a higher level. All done in lovely surroundings and with a great model in Shanice, I really enjoyed all three days and ended up with a special piece of artwork. The number of people returning is a testament to everything that the courses provide and I would love to attend another in the future."

"I thoroughly recommend the courses here and Miranda as tutor. In March 2018 we did a six-week one-morning-a-week life sculpting course and were both delighted with our progress, the instruction and model. The three-hour session was split into two: in the first we made a new model from scratch and in the second we worked on the same model, producing figures we are happy to display. I've just completed a six-week portrait head course that was a similar excellent experience. This time we built a single full-size head, adjusting and improving in each session until a good likeness was achieved. Miranda encourages students to look, and rotates the model frequently to give the different viewpoints necessary to see the whole form. I've adopted the building processes into my own practice; I've learned a lot and look forward to more courses next year."

"I absolutely loved this course; I learnt so much and was over the moon with my results. Miranda is an expert in the industry and an excellent teacher who guides and encourages you every step of the way. The venue is light and spacious and is organised by Sally who is most welcoming and helpful. I didn’t realise there was a course like this so close to home, I will certainly be attending more ? I highly recommend this course to beginners and more experienced sculptors."

"I have completed 5 different courses run by Sally at the Sculpture Place and have enjoyed every single one. The courses have ranged from Monday mornings over a 6 week period and 3 day consecutive classes. The studio is light and airy and located in a beautiful Victorian former school building and Miranda who teaches the class is a fantastic tutor with lots of patience! The class is mixed ability and attended by regulars and new faces each time; the atmosphere is friendly and everyone is supportive and encouraging. I am so pleased the Sculpture Place is running, it has taken me 20 years to find a local figurative sculpture class with expert tuition at such good value. I encourage everybody to sign up to a course - I cannot wait until my next one. See you soon Sally and Miranda!"

"I attended a 3 day course during which we fashioned a bust of a model. The old grammer school it is held in has a lovely artistic atmosphere. I had never worked with clay, but with excellent teaching and good company I had a lovely time, and produced my own mini “Epstein”! It was a great thing to do as an alternative break"

"An excellent workshop for any level of student. There are numerous tips to pick up, not just the tools and processes involved in sculpting. Having a tutor like Miranda helped to point out lots of insightful observations of the structure of the face and the small differences in form, which describe an individual face. I have come away knowing a lot more about the contours of the face and also the facial areas I have to work on in the future. Miranda was very supportive and flexible in her approach to everyone. Her comments were always instructive and never critical, welcoming different working styles. The sculpting room was comfortable and produced a lovely working and relaxed atmosphere between everyone."

"I attended a 3day portrait workshop working in clay from a live model. Very good facilities & equipment, nice light room, friendly group & excellent tuition. I would thoroughly recommend the Sculpture Place to anyone keen to develop their sculpting. The Newhampton Art Centre is well located with easy walking distance from Wolverhampton station & town centre. Anne"

"This course appealed to me as I wanted to learn how to sculpt a face so I can apply the techniques to cake making. I have learnt how to use clay (which I was a complete novice to), use of tools, how to look for lines to help build the model, the importance of muscles in getting the correct shapes and many more techniques. Miranda Wakeman is a brilliant tutor who instructs you through every stage and pointing out areas that need 'tweeking' so you come away with a life size facial sculpture. I thoroughly enjoyed my 3 days at this site, the room was very airy and comfortable, parking is available and the hours passed quickly. I would highly recommend this course and are confident you will not be disappointed with the result, many thanks to Sally who organises everything."

"3day sculpting course- Portrait .Having wanted to do sculpture since school, centuries ago, I finally found a course. What a pleasure it was. The 3day course was brilliant. Sally ( the organiser) was so welcoming , and Miranda an excellent teacher. She encourages you to see things as they actually are,and enables you to translate them into your own piece of work. Beginners and experienced all blend together, and the day flies by!"

"Miranda is an excellent Tutor...so patient and encouraging even to total novices as I was! She really does help you to see 'around corners' and think around the work without it feeling too technically baffling. Sally always has the Studio up and running, it's such a light airy welcoming space with everything to hand that you need....including the kettle! The three day course is brilliant because you can get totally immersed in the piece and see the process through to completion. Excellent value, excellant teaching .... and lovely relaxed friendly company!"

"It's a great space, the light is wonderful and there's plenty of room to work. The tutoring is excellent. It's so helpful to have a long working session and a variety of models, three different ones so far. The classes are well attended, there's a range of abilities and a very positive atmosphere. So there's plenty of encouragement for anyone who's at all lacking in confidence or experience. I've been attending sculpture classes for a while, and for me this is the most interesting and the most enjoyable. And the fees are really competitive."

"The tuition is excellent and I have learned more in one class than I have in 4 other starter classes. The variety of angles and tips have been invaluable amd I feel myself really improving. It is really great value and we'll worth embarking on a course."
