I started my ceramics journey when I lived in South Korea where I developed my skills studying under a local Korean master potter. Once back in the UK I became at studio member of Baltic Clay in Liverpool and soon after I started delivering ceramics classes in my local area. I have been teaching for 4 years now primarily at The Barn (Heswall), but also in The Violet Palm (Chester), Paisley Grey (Neston), Baltic Clay (Liverpool), and Tate Liverpool

"Mat is friendly, approachable and knowledgeable. I've learnt so much doing a course with him. I'm currently waiting for some pots to be fired after I glazed them and am so excited to see how they turn out as with Mat's guidance I tried a few things I have never done before. Highly recommend the course and the tutor. The location is also wonderful. If you are there during opening hours do take a look around the shop as you're sure to pick up one of a kind bargains from many local artisans."

"Spent a full day with Mat in a fabulous environment for learning a new craft. All materials were supplied and were in abundance... Everyone was encouraged to just have a go and see what their creative juices could come up with.... I made 7 'pieces' ranging from pinch pots, to coil pots to thrown pots.... Mat was incredibly patient, knowledgeable and encouraging... It was a really fun day.. Can highly recommend"
