Absolutely loved my day with Lorraine, she is an amazing teacher who gives so much brilliant advice.
I’ve always dreamed of writing a book and now I feel nearer to achieving it.
Stiwidio 3 was a perfect setting for it too
Lovely evening, really engrossing process, and very pleased with our wax casts, can't wait to see the finished products (couldn't resist, had to make two rings!).
This was an excellent two day course. Lesley was a very patient and extremely good teacher. The venue was very good and there was plenty of tea and coffee throughout the day. The material was beautiful wool from the local woollen mill and there was a good choice of colour mixes. I was delighted with the results - although the actual matching and making was much harder than I thought it would be. The whole experience was very rewarding and I would highly recommend it, as I would all the Make It In Wales courses.
I had a lovely day learning to weave with Dunja. The beautiful setting, friendly people, quality materials and patient, knowledgeable tutor made it a very pleasurable day and I was very pleased with the results. I had a spare day's holiday unexpectedly and wanted to make the most of it and quietly industrious time learning with lovely people is always time well spent.
Response from Make it in Wales:
Thank you so much for this Caroline. We're really pleased that you enjoyed xxExcellent course with an excellent tutor. Thoroughly enjoyable!
Excellent course. Well paced, learnt a lot and went home with a piece of furniture that I could be really proud of. Although Mick says he's not a teacher, he is good at explaining, and has a very good sense of when to intervene and when to let you get on with it. You make something under close guidance step-by-step, but feel that you have completed the article yourself.
Highly recommended.
This was an excellent course and this was simply down to Mick, he was a brilliant teacher, lots of time for each of us as well as teaching us in groups too. He us a perfectionist and equally wanted us to achieve perfection. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the company of the others on the group. It was a very inclusive and supportive group with the bonus of fun too. Thank you to Suzi too, I received a lovely welcome from her plus she provided us all with regular refreshments.
Excellent course content - a lot learned and the pieces we took away with us at the end of the day are absolutely gorgeous and I will definitely wear my scarf. The venue was perfect with lots of space to work in make a mess. Claire was a great tutor, very approachable and knowledgeable and Suzi is just so helpful and friendly. Lunch was provided and it was wonderful! Home cooked, and so tasty - as we had vegetarians and gluten-free folks with us their dietary needs were catered for and we all had the same but it was so deliciously yummy it was not obviously specialised - Juliet is an amazing cook. I will be booking again and I highly recommend this workshop 5/5
Had a great day making my Open Spine bound book at Carole King’s workshop on Wednesday. Lots of different papers to choose from for the cover so this time I picked a very girly, red-hearts on blue background – definitely not my usual choice! Bit fiddly in places, but we all finished on time and everyone’s was very different. I love my book so will use it for all the small sketches and paintings I have done over the years rather than just look at a beautiful – but empty – book!
was a fun day, learning a new skill, in a great venue, good food and a very good teacher, notes that went with the course are well written
Enjoyed the day very much, the weaving was well geared to a 1 day course and you were able to achieve a great looking scarf. Food was lovely and the whole atmosphere very enjoyable.
Fabulous day. I really enjoyed it.
An excellent introduction to traditional upholstery techniques, and we all came away with an item that we could be really proud of.
Mick explained everything really well and helped patiently when needed.
Highly recommended.
Enjoyed this course so much! Cath, the tutor, was amazing, patient, generous and knowledgeable. There was plenty of room (and a wood fire, which was greatly appreciated as it poured with rain for two of the three days). We were made very welcome, with lovely and interesting food in abundance, and interesting people from many different backgrounds.
The course was suitable for people completely new to dyeing, and those with experience. I'd do it all again in a second.
I can only echo what the others have written. Suzi is an exceptional teacher with the patience of a saint (I was a teacher for many years and know the challenges of teaching art and craft, involving equipment, machines, multiskills, etc. and constant demands for help.) I learned a lot and came away feeling enthusiastic, with new skills, and with much more confidence in using my machine. Suzi also had an awareness of the 'group', as well as each individual, and brought us all together. Let us not forget the CAKE.
It is because of Suzi's enthusiasm and vision that we are able to enjoy courses like this, which fulful so many various needs other than practical ones.
I shall return. Thankyou.
This was a very good course and lived up to all my expectations. The tutor was knowledgeable and very patient. It was great to get our hands into the dye and not worry about the mess. The venue was in lovely countryside and a perfect place to explore indigo dying. The food was excellent with everyone's needs catered for. Altogether three unforgettable days with lovely people and plenty of inspiration to continue with indigo and shibori.
Suzi was a great teacher who understood every students needs and abilities. She never got frustrated when someone couldn't achieve the task and was very one on one with each learner. It was very lovely to hear about her past experiences in sewing and that she too started out as an amateur. It was inspiring to see her previous work and her exciting plans for the future. Being a part of the class which was very welcoming and fun made me want to take part in the other courses available and keep learning. Thank you Suzi, you have inspired and lit a fire within!
Anyone who missed this course missed a treat (and that includes the banana cake every week!). Suzi is a wonderful teacher with the patience of a saint and with a whole heap of fabulous fabrics and threads which she shares very generously. I learned so much and am now motivated to get on with using different methods of embroidery and stitching. I would repeat this course another time because there is still so much to learn. The group was amazing, the venue ideal, and I wish I could go there every week and do some more sewing with Suzi. Thank you Make it in Wales for another brilliant course.
I have just received my ring! Thank you sooooo much. It's really lovely and shows up every facet of the original carving. I only wish that I had more spare fingers to have an excuse to do it all again.
I’m lucky enough to have attended two of Maggie Cross’s ‘Make a Silver Ring’ workshops – and planning on a third – well taught – interesting and satisfying – thoroughly recommend.
Had a fabulous 3 days on this course. Our tutor was really knowledgeable and more importantly for me in any case very patient. There are the things that may have improved the course the first was having our own cutting boards and the second was having a bit more time to practice the quilting techniques themselves although I think we were probably slower than other courses. So as I said a fabulous two days, a lovely tutor and lovely venue. Will definitly come again.
