Maker's bio

JoJo is a second generation woodworker, and has been carving almost since she learnt to walk. This intuitive level of skill lends itself to fantastically fun and in-depth courses. She aims to get craft to more people - anyone can carve a spoon! You don't need to be strong, all you need is an interest. JoJo is the director and co-founder of Pathcarvers, an organisation that uses craft for positive social change.

Christine King reviewed: Spoon carving day with JoJo Wood

"Wanted to do this for ages and it didn’t disappoint. Jo Jo is a great teacher and her passion and expertise was infectious. Was really pleased to learn some key carving techniques with emphasised safety. Can’t believe I created a wooden spoon! Very welcoming and hospitable, great lunch, good company and lots of coffee! Will be back."

Nigel Briggs reviewed: The eating spoon with JoJo Wood

"A hugely enjoyable and very informative weekend. Excellent tuition, loads of hints and tips about how to carve then really detailed run-throughs of making spoons. I produced a spoon which was infinitely better than any I'd made before. Jojo was encouraging, supportive and enthusiastic throughout and particularly helpful when things went wrong. It was a really sociable event, being with a group of like-minded people. I fully recommend this course to anyone with an interest in woodcarving and who wants to increase their skills."

Jo Brook reviewed: The eating spoon with JoJo Wood

"This was a thorough and well paced course led by someone who knows so much intuitively as well as technically about wood and spoon carving. I left feeling I had been given grounded and tested techniques which if I can adopt will mean my spoon making will produce successful spoons…looking good and functioning for purpose. I am hoping it means if I continue to make more and more spoons I will progress and begin to develop my style based on these techniques."

Paul Sykes reviewed: Spoon carving day with JoJo Wood

"As a complete novice this course was an excellent introduction with a chance to tackle two projects during the day. JoJo's concentration on correct holds and use of the tools in developing situations was most helpful and enable good progress during the day."
