Suzanne reviewed: Furniture Painting Workshop in the Cotswolds

"Warm welcome with a coffee and cake. Discussed what my expectations of the day were. Everything went at my pace and the course was very relaxed. I never felt like I was doing it wrong as creativity is what you make it. Lunch was brilliant my absolute favourite thank you, which allowed the paint to dry on my work. Then we made the finishing touches which totally transformed the piece of furniture. I was astounded and didn’t think it would work but it looks brilliant thank you so much for your guidance and knowledge. I will definitely keep in touch. And the day was nicely rounded off with a freshly made scone with cream! It was a surprise birthday treat for me and I loved every minute of it thank you"

Annie Connolly reviewed: Furniture Painting Workshop in the Cotswolds

"Chris and Celia are really generous with sharing their knowledge and their skill. I was really lucky because I was the only attendee so that meant I could have their undivided attention! I took along an Ercol chair that I want to restore. They taught me how to clean it and rub it down and take the varnish off and then gave me a list of instructions as to how to continue the project at home. There simply isn't enough time to complete such a big project on one day but they got me off to to a cracking start and filled me with confidence and know how. I enjoyed the painting lesson on chair spindles and I had no idea that stencilling and gilt work could be so effective. Lovely people who care about doing the job properly and imparting their wisdom with kindly guidance. I especially like that they were flexible with the day and taught me what I was interested in. Thank you so much."

Hanna reviewed: Furniture Painting Workshop in the Cotswolds

"Hello Celia and Chris The course with you was rewarding and helpful. I learnt new techniques, new approaches, about material like brushes which one to use and how. You had samples ready to show me the techniques and I tried myself. You showed me stenciling and moulds which is new to me and very intriguing. It was beneficial to meet with you, thank you very much for your inputs, it's mostly appreciated. Kind regards, Hanna"

Amanda & GIllian reviewed: Furniture Painting Workshop in the Cotswolds

"We are really not understanding the high ratings of other Reviewers and Silver Craft Course Award. We unfortunately were extremely disappointed with many aspects of the Workshop. It did not represent value for money and we note that the course fees have increased from £110 to £125 per person since we attended 16 May 2018 (with additional supplement for Saturdays). A second course for Furniture Repairs and Repurposing was listed at an eye-watering £175, now amended to £125 per person. This highlights the feeling we had that this is mainly about opportunist raising of cash rather than providing excellent courses. Chris and Celia were personable and offered refreshments through the day. However the main reason for attending was to build on existing knowledge and learn about preparing furniture for painting and getting a good finish on furniture. The course did not hit the spot and we came away underwhelmed. Having been on other arts and craft courses the key failings were: # Lack of planning/planned outcome - by allowing people to bring any piece of furniture it is hard to plan activities/timings. Maybe being more prescriptive over type/size of furniture or providing a smaller item and options would help. There was no plan, there were no hand-outs. We were promised hand-outs would be forwarded by email after course. Still nothing received. # Poor organisation and lack of materials available. Choice of paints was dreadful - insufficient quantities of colours available and poor quality. Luckily we had taken some of our own paint pots. Course start time was postponed until 11am and we left by 4pm so it was hardly 1 day as expected. Given we did not have time for wax to dry (if applied) before leaving we ended up funding items of furniture, paint and wax/varnish ourselves. # Uninspiring environment - courses are held in tea shop (closed during workshops) where interior design business is promoted, hats are for sale, painted furniture and home pieces are ticketed for sale. The poor quality of the painted items rang alarm bells with us and the environment did not provide inspiration or confidence in the expertise/experience/creativity/knowledge of the 'tutors'. All rather amateur when, for the price, we were expecting professional and slick. # Techniques - not all the different techniques listed on course information were demonstrated. Information on those that were mentioned was provided in an amateur way without clean samples of technique outcome on furniture or boards. Little forethought or planning and not much time spent on any of the topics. Would advise people to shop around for a workshop costing less and be more sceptical of ratings supplied."

Jennifer reviewed: Furniture Painting Workshop in the Cotswolds

"The perfect introduction to furniture painting. Chris and Celia couldn't have been more helpful, talking us through all the steps from what to look out for (and avoid) when picking furniture to paint, preparation and choosing paint to painting the additional techniques you can use to enhance a piece. We each came away with a finished and completely transformed piece of furniture which will act as a lovely reminder of a lovely day and a confidence boost to start more furniture projects. All this and delicious food and wonderful hospitality. I would thoroughly recommend this workshop."

"This was a lovely mother and daughter activity introducing us to furniture painting. Prior to the course we had spent a fun morning at a local place hunting out a small piece of furniture to take with us. Celia and Chris were delightful and very helpful. We learnt a range of new skills. Excellent value for money, lovely food - very enjoyable birthday. Thank you."

Christina reviewed: Furniture Painting Workshop in the Cotswolds

"I did this workshop with my husband, and both of us being complete beginners and not very artistically creative we just wanted to have a nice day together and thought we'd try out something new. Amazingly under the guidance of Chris and Celia we each transformed a bedside table and were extremely proud of what we achieved. Maybe we are creative after all! Now that we have some skills, some confidence and a couple of mentors in Celia and Chris, we are planning many more projects. I definitely recommend this course whether you are a total novice or looking to start a furniture business. We had a really enjoyable day and loved getting to know Chris and Celia too. Thanks very much!"

"I thoroughly enjoyed this introduction to furniture painting. Chris and Celia were encouraging, helpful and generous with their knowledge of products to use and practical tips for avoiding common mistakes. A great way to gain confidence to start on those projects you've always wanted to do but didn't know where to start. And I left with three small items well underway to a finished state!"

Natasha Hall reviewed: Furniture Painting Workshop in the Cotswolds

"We booked a group of four on the furniture painting workshop. They all found the course extremely well presented and very helpful. Different learning styles and levels of competence were taken account of. They found that the pace of the course kept them interested and the day went very quickly. I know that they appreciated the patience that was shown them. It was a bonus that they came away with a piece of furniture that they had painted themselves. Overall this course has really motivated them to try their new skills and they are looking forwarding to putting their new skills into practice. They also thought the food provided was delicious."
