Father and Daughter team, Nick and Sophie started spoon carving to help improve their wellbeing and mental health, however, it’s become more than just a pass time, it’s become an obsession! We prefer to carve spoons in our back yard, but in the rain and snow, we retreat indoors. Our wood chippings have spread around the whole house! We started our own business in 2018, The Gosman Spoon Co, and now sell our spoons online and offer beginner’s spoon carving courses.
"Our teenage son and his friend thoroughly enjoyed their recent beginners spoon carving day. It was great for them to have a go at something completely different and learn new skills together with information and knowledge about the art of carving and the types of wood used for the variety of items which can be made. A very welcoming and knowledgeable host helped make the day a great success!

"Just finished the two day bowl making course and I'm please to say that I now have a nice looking usable wooden bowl. Nick is an excellent tutor, very knowledgeable and patient and very good company to boot.
I struggle a bit with energy levels and some of the early work is a little strenuous but there is a lot of encouragement and a little bit of help available if needed to ensure you go home with a bowl that you will be proud of.
Can't recommend the course enough. I have now been on the spoon and bowl carving courses and will definitely be going back again."

I loved my weekend at the Old School House. Nick and Debbie are welcoming hosts and good company. The outdoor work space is flexible, spacious and full of tools. Nick is a patient and knowledgeable teacher, able to work with students individually so you get to work at your own pace. I came away with a bowl and a spoon, more than enough to inspire me to do more green woodworking on my own. Highly recommended. "
