Maker's bio

I am a qualified Art Tutor with a PGCE in Art and Design. I teach art to adults as well as practise myself. I paint detailed paintings about Birmingham with a comic twist and also quite differently paint plein air from nature in a bold style using acrylic with knife and impasto gel.

"I joined Robert's beginners class a year ago this month and I am thoroughly enjoying it. I was an absolute beginner! I am 67 years of age and hadn't done any art since secondary school and I can't actually remember doing any to be honest! I really enjoy learning all the techniques with drawing, water colour and acrylic which gave me the confidence to "have a go' and my art work has really come on, thanks to Robert's teaching skills. Robert is really patient, so down to earth, great teaching us as a group, whatever your ability may be, but also teaching one to one, especially me, if I need to ask him to explain a technique again! I have winter depression (SAD) and anxiety, and doing this course has been great for me."

"Robert encourages class members to try different mediums and techniques in their drawing and painting. Robert always gets around each individual member of the class at least twice in the session and is always available for individual advice if needed. When introducing a new topic he will bring examples of different artists work for discussion and will demonstrate techniques. Robert is positive towards student's work helping them improve and enjoy the class. The Kings Heath Park Tea Rooms is a pleasant venue to work in."

"I have thoroughly enjoyed Robert's sessions. These are a good mix of demonstration, explanation and time to get on with our own work. Sessions have covered a variety of topics and styles, and have used a variety of media. This has kept my interest throughout, and I have certainly seen my painting and drawing skills develop."
