"I absolutely loved this course. From start to finish it was fascinating, friendly and very fun! I had a one-to-one session with Simon (and his adorable dog!). We went through the whole process of growing flax and producing linen, trying out almost every stage myself with plenty of tips along the way from Simon. I loved that the course was hands-on so I got a bit of an insight into the whole process. I asked millions of questions and Simon graciously answered all of them over endless cups of tea. I learned so much and walked away feeling inspired. If you're in two minds about taking the course, I say go for it!"

"I really enjoyed this course. Everything was explained very clearly, and there were lots of demonstrations and time to try it out for ourselves. From a starting point of having no knowledge at all, I learned a lot. And to cap it all there was a great lunch - including the best bread I have ever eaten!"

"An excellent day from start to finish. We arrived for the flax processing course and were warmly welcomed with tea and coffee. The tutors Ann and Simon were very personable, knowledgeable and there plenty of resources and materials present to work with and learn about flax. Plenty of time to practise processing the flax and lovely to take the materials we had made home. A good lunch was provided and more tea and chat before heading home."

"A fantastic course from start to finish. We learnt far, far more than I expected (not only how to process flax but two different ways to do it (one traditional, one easy for home use) and also how flax was grown and retted, the uses of flaxseed and linseed oil, how to dress a distaff (which we practiced) and how to spin line flax from a distaff (which we also practiced) and how to spin rope using a rope walk. Plenty of opportunity was given to develop all the skills (processing flax, spinning) and there were plenty of tools and fibre to use even for our quite large group. Our hosts were friendly, welcoming and hugely knowledgeable and we were also given two breaks with hot drinks plus a delicious lunch. Absolutely fab. Would thoroughly recommend it. Five stars."

I would thoroughly recommend this course to anyone wanting to learn about the growing and processing of flax."

"Simon and Ann are very enthusiastic about sharing their passion for flax and linen. The day was well structured, never rushed with plenty of opportunities for them both to share their knowledge and expertise's with the group. The workshops takes place between their house and a large barn nearby, very lovely setting. Fully recommend for anyone wanting to be introduced into the world of flax and linen production."

"Wow! The Flax Processing Course was amazing. Ann and Simon were fantastic teachers and I learned such a lot. Simon took us to see the flax in the field and went through how to plant and grow it. Then we went to the barn and Ann showed us how to dress a cone distaff and how to use a drop spindle. Producing thread was very satisfying. Mine wasn't exactly perfect but I did come away with the knowledge and will practice at home. After a delicious lunch, included in the cost of the course, we went back to the barn and the real fun began. We were shown how to process the flax using simple hand tools. After Rippling, Breaking, Scutching and Hackling, in no time at all a handful of dried stems was turned into lovely soft Tow. A fascinating and very rewarding process - new skills and a whole new language! We also had a go using items from the Farm and Factory units - the Flax Break, Scutching Unit and Hackling Combs. All very easy to use and much quicker to process the flax. Ann showed us how to use the Twine Twister to make string. Flax is just amazing! I thoroughly recommend this course. I had an amazing time and came away filled with determination to grow flax and process it. I brought the Starter Kit and it contained everything I needed to carry on processing the Flax Stooks that Ann gave me to practice with. Roll on Spring so I can plant that Flax Seed!"

"Excellent course, very well structured with ample opportunity to practise skills. Would recommend to anyone interested in producing fibres for spinning/weaving. Also recommend the 'spinning box' to take away and develop skills. One of the best courses I've done (and I've done a lot!)"
