Maker's bio

I’ve been exploring woodland crafts for over 20 years and have a keen interest in relating an understanding of woodland ecology with the practical skills of woodland management and craft skills of making products from a wonderful sustainable raw material. I take my past experience in University continuing education into my teaching of craft skills to offer a rich immersive experience

Amaryllis reviewed: Introduction to spooncarving at Hill End

"A great day carving a spoon. David gave very clear instructions and helpful advice all day while we carved our spoons. So exciting seeing them take form.😉"

David Knight Woodland Crafts responded:

"Thanks so much for attending the course, Amaryllis, braving the road closures around Oxford and for your positive review! I'm so pleased that you enjoyed the process of seeing a functional spoon emerging from a branch of green wood. Every time you cleave a piece of wood you are the first to be able to consider the opportunities within. I hope you'll never look at a branch blown from a tree in a storm in the same way again. I'll send details of our Bodgers groups and I hope you'll continue your carving journey."

Oli reviewed: Introduction to spooncarving at Hill End

"I bought the course as a gift for myself and my mother at Christmas. The experience, location and teaching were spot on. Dave and Caroline made the whole day so much fun, so much so that I can't wait to make another spoon. Met a great bunch of people and walked away with a new hobby. Couldn't recommend more highly. Oli "

David Knight Woodland Crafts responded:

"Hi Oli and Lanne, thanks so much for booking on the course. It was an absolute pleasure to work with you all in creating a unique object from a piece of wood. I do hope the follow-up notes are helpful and you both enjoy your spoon carving journey."

Lucy reviewed: Introduction to spooncarving at Hill End

"One of the most enjoyable and best organised courses I've been on. I was a complete woodcraft novice but David gave the perfect mix of help with basic techniques and expert advice - and the safety briefings gave me reassurance in using axes and knives for the first time. The ambiance was fun and relaxed, and creating something from wood from scratch was a very tactile and satisfying experience! Highly recommended."
