Worn well; embroidering a second life for knitwear with Rachel Davies
Description
Hand stitching for preloved knits. As we turn the corner into Spring, join me at beautiful Bunbury Mill for an inspiring and sustainable hand embroidery day with woollens. Having been bundled up in jumpers and knitwear for months we will look at ways to embellish and renew knitwear and give it a second lease of life. Applying embroidery directly onto stretchy knitted items is not difficult with the correct techniques. The results can be so wonderful. I will take you through a series of practical processes utilising support mediums, weaving 3D embellishments and using decorative darning processes to personalise sweaters. During the day the samples you create will give you lots of ideas to repeat with confidence at home on your old favourites. I will supply everything for our workshop, including sample pieces of cashmere and wool mixes to embroider onto, as well as multiple different threads and wools to experiment with to create gorgeous textures and patterns. Beginners are more than welcome, and those of you with sewing experience will be able to work creatively with the techniques I introduce. Our clothes are a reflection of our views about the textile issues facing us at present. Repairing, embellishing and rewearing our clothes is extremely satisfying and you are keeping important skills alive.
