Our workshops have been developed to provide a quiet day of creativity and gentle tuition and we hope the feeling of going home with a desire to learn more.
This one day course is suitable for both beginners and intermediate level students and aims to equip you with the skills, wire and beads to create:-
• A copper wire and bead pendant
• Handmade chain links and clasp
The workshop begins with an introduction to the basics of wire wrapping. You will learn about the tools you need, the different types, shapes and gauges of wire, plus demonstrations from Jo of various techniques, including scroll work and flattening wire (using a small hammer) all of which will enable you to create a lovely piece of jewellery to take home with you.
You will create a pendant which incorporates scrolls, layering pieces of wire and weaving in small beads. The latter part of the workshop will spent looking at two different styles of links and how to create them, as well as a clasp. As handmade chains are time consuming, you may not finish the whole piece within the workshop time scale, but you will be provided with enough wire to finish your chain at home. The jewellery will be completed using bare copper wire and we will also talk about how to add a patina to the wire to give it that antique look.
