About the Course
Create a fun and sustainable willow plant support - the perfect addition to your garden this Spring.
During this one-day course you will discover the techniques used to weave and create a willow plant support.
Using a jig to support construction you will learn how to stake up, organise and bind stakes securely prior to starting the weave. You will learn two weaving techniques: a three-rod wale for the base of the structure, then a pairing weave using several rods to create a rope-like spiral around the stakes that continues to the top of the obelisk. You will also learn how to finish the top with a willow binding.
Hazel will demonstrate each process and explain the principles behind the weaving techniques being used for each stage of construction.
By the end of the day you will have made a useful willow structure approximately 5 ft high and 18 inches diameter. You will be familiar with the principles of making conical woven structures and have the knowledge to confidently purchase materials to create more in the future.
A fact-sheet will be available containing useful diagrams, terminology and tips for sourcing materials, tools and suppliers.
This course is suitable for beginners.
