About the Course

Residential willow sculpture course in beautiful surroundings at Margam Discovery Centre.

Friday to Sunday.

Join us for an inspiring weekend creating your very own willow sculpture. This course provides an opportunity for you to learn all about willow, how to grow it, prepare it and sculpt it to form three-dimensional works of art. During the weekend you will design and construct either one four-legged animal or a pair of bird sculptures or feel free to let your imagination run wild! Foxes, pheasants, herons, hares and chickens are possible or abstract forms if you prefer this approach. The course is suitable for both beginners and those with some willow or sculpture experience.

Out to Learn Willow are a small company based in the Vale of Glamorgan, specialising in all aspects of working with willow. We provide fun and creative willow weaving workshops; beginners baskets, garden structures, willow sculpture, living willow and much more. We are also makers of willow craft and traditional baskets.

By the end of the course participants will:
Know the process of making a 3 dimensional work of art out of willow.
Gain knowledge of building on a structure using different weaves for filling in and creating impact

This course officially starts at 6.00pm on the Friday with dinner and registration. Please aim to arrive between 4:00-5:00, there will be coffee and cake available from 4pm onwards. Breakfast will be at 8am; Lunch will be a packed lunch. The course will end the following Friday at breakfast.

A camera may be useful to record the different stages of sculpture making.
