A week of willow weaving with true craftsman, Eddie Glew. Learn a variety of skills to make baskets, sculpture or structures for your garden. All abilities welcome – from the complete novice to experienced basket makers
As a first project, we suggest making a round, oval or square basket. Later in the week there will be chance to develop a second project of your choice. This may involve further basketry techniques or a more sculptural approach. Eddie will also explain the basics of using living willow in your garden to build larger structures.
The class will be garden-based, with the studio as back-up in case of poor weather. The views across the fields to Carsington Water makes this a lovely place to work.
“Excellent tutor, lovely surroundings and hospitality” M.D.

Homely welcome coupled with excellent tuition - I recently attended the painted stained glass weekend course. Alison and Pete make you very welcome in their home with tea, coffee, delicious home cooked lunch and cake in the afternoon. The course is held in their home with a purpose built studio for the class. The tuition by Jane Littlefield on this course was excellent. Covered all the basics and provided all the support that was needed for all delegates. Thoroughly recommended.
Response from Zantium Studios Ltd:Dear Linda,
My second stained glass course at Zantium Studios with Lili, this time learning about leaded glass. The course was fabulous; Lili is fantastic, so patient and encouraging. I would highly recommend any of her courses. Zantium Studio's light and airy craft studio is a perfect place to learn a craft. Alison is lovely and welcoming, and really cares about what you've achieved on the course. And of course the food and cake is delicious!
Response from Zantium Studios Ltd:Delighted to have you back, Sarah. Thankyou for returning to us for the Intermediate Level Glass Course. I will pass on your compliments to Lilian. She is such a dedicated tutor - we feel very lucky to have her here. Enjoy your new-found skills and your glass.
I have just had a fantastic weekend at Zantium making stained glass. This was my second visit to the Studio and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Alison, who runs the course is always friendly and welcoming, she makes great lunches and even greater cakes! Lili, the tutor, is inspiring - she guides you through every step of the process, gives great advice and encourages you to learn through hands on experience. There were only 6 of us on the course and therefore, as numbers are deliberately kept low, Lili is able to give lots of one to one tuition. A great weekend - I'm looking forward to going back for more!
I recently spent a very enjoyable weekend at Zantium Studios learning to create copper foil stained glass light catchers. Lillian was an excellent tutor - very calm, very positive & very knowledgable. Godfrey Hole house and Zantium studios was an excellent base for the course and the food was delicious. The Kingfisher light catcher I produced on the course now has pride of place in our conservatory.
I would thoroughly recommend the venue and 2 day introduction course and hope to go back on the intermediate course as soon as possible.
Response from Zantium Studios Ltd:Tony, thankyou so much for this glowing review. Lilian is, indeed, a very talented artist and patient tutor. I will pass on your positive feedback. So glad you enjoyed your time here - including the cakes! Hope to welcome you back soon.
My husband and I had a fabulous 2 days learning the basic techniques of copper foil stained glass. We thoroughly enjoyed it and are contemplating booking onto the intermediate course now, to learn more. Lillian is a superb tutor, very calm and encouraging. Godfrey Hole House is a superb setting, and the studio is spot on. The food, especially the cakes, were delicious. Everyone was very welcoming and we had really lovely 2 days, thank you! I'd thoroughly recommend it to anyone.
Response from Zantium Studios Ltd:Dear Sarah,
Highly recommend this course. I have been to Zantium Studios three times and each time has been a wonderful experience. Fantastic hospitality, plus lovely lunches and cakes! Great tuition, I have learnt so much in a short space of time. Looking forward to going back for quite a few of the many courses they have to offer!
As I was new to glass fusing, I struggled with glass cutting on first day, but soon picked it up on second.
At the end of the 2 day course, I had learnt, how to cut glass, different types of glass, and what they are used for, and how they are likely to come out when fired.
I really enjoyed it and was pleasantly surprised with my end result.
Great hosts, in a lovely countryside setting, offering tea, coffee and biscuits with lunch included in the fee.
Look forward to improving on my next course.
