Willow Basketmaking

X

Description

Over a relaxing two days, Sarah Loughlin from Hopewood Baskets, will teach you to weave a wicker log basket.

Set within our beautiful leafy patch of the forest, you will learn the skills needed to weave willow into a functional basket. Whilst weaving, you will learn from Sarah all about the willow preparation process; giving you advice on how to source, sort, soak and mellow willow into pliable weaving rods. You will learn how to weave a round base, and learn a variety of weaving techniques, before creating inset handles and finishing the basket with a border. Using tried and tested weaving techniques, you will go home with a round-base kindling or log basket and the skills to be able to make more in the future.

Sarah will calmly guide you through each stage, so no experience is needed, and there will be plenty of time to settle into the environment and to find your piece of calm within the natural rhythm of this ancient craft.
