Working on a hand-dyed unique fabric background (provided) the day will start with some fabric printing using wooden blocks. Flowers and foliage and a preprinted bird if desired, will be cut from bonded fabric and ironed down as raw edge appliqué. The composition can then be finished with hand or machine sewing as preferred. We will make a design approximately 20cm square. (with enough extra fabric to wrap round a deep frame. Kate will demo how to wrap your work onto the frame, or onto a foamboard base. What to bring: A mixture of fabrics to suit your composition : ideal cotton fabrics would be textured, mottled, batiks, or randomly dyed, or small patterns. Sewing kit, fabric scissors, some embroidery threads for finishing details. A rotary cutter, small cutting mat, sponges/2-3 brushes/old plate (for fabric paints) jar for water. Apron, Vanishing fabric marker eg Frixion pen, pencil. An extra strong polyester thread for lacing the back of the design. Optional : Wooden/foam Leaf stamps and thermofax screens of leaf designs if you have them. Staple gun Sewing machine. Free motion quilting foot ideally. A variety of threads. Kate will bring: Dyed fabric pieces, felt backing, 20cm canvasses or foamboard, a box of fabric scraps, wooden stamping blocks and fabric paints, birds printed on fabric, bondaweb, templates of leaf shapes. It is possible to complete this as a hand sewing project if preferred.

If you have any specific dietary requirements or allergies, please feel free to bring along your own provisions/milk alternatives etc And of course you take your wonderful creations from the day. Terms - Fee is payable on booking. If, having booked, you can no longer attend, we are unable to offer a refund or transfer you to another workshop. However, you may nominate someone else to attend the workshop or class in your place by notifying us. We reserve the right to cancel a workshop up to 48 hours prior to the workshop date.
