About the Course

Whittling is addictive once started - therapeutic from being relaxing, absorbing and creative & richly rewarding in a sense of personal achievement.

During this course Dave will teach you traditional hand carving, whittling, skills, using craft knives and other specialist hand tools provided to enable you to complete a carved bird in a day, which can be attached to a display base.

There are two types of wood idea for carving; the beautiful native lime and the more exotic Jelutong.

A small fee is payable to the tutor on the day for this wood used.

Greystoke is blessed with two excellent wood yards in the vicinity, which supply both hard and exotic woods perfect for carving. You will be carving a 'smoothie'. Some of you may prefer to keep this stylised finish.

Our 2017 course dates are now available. If you wish to receive this NEW course programme email please use the 'Stay in Touch' icon at the top of each webpage on OUR WEBSITE (link above) to join our database. Many of our early courses get booked up for Christmas presents.

What's included in the price?

Welcome drinks : fresh coffee & home made biscuits, a lovely 2 course Aga lunch served in our farmhouse kitchen or outside in the Greystoke Cycle Cafe Tea Garden as soon as it's warm enough. To finish off the day, a freshly made Cream Tea (including Aga-baked scones, cream and jam).

Our days are considered special treats; many come back time and time again and often combine it with a short break to the Lake District.

We have been hosting and organising 'Quirky Workshops' since 2005 from our friendly family run Cycle Cafe Tea Garden on the northern fringes of the Lake District. All our tutors are carefully hand selected experts and professionals and many considered as leading nationally in their field.
