Wet felting workshop (intermediate): making and using prefelts to create fibre art vessels and pictures in Henstridge, near Stalbridge Somerset and Dorset

Spend a day exploring the creation and use of pre felt in wet felt 2D and 3D fibre art.

Learning how to make and use pre-felt in your wet felt techniques is a great way to help sharpen your images when creating pictures, and will allow you to add elements with crisp outlines when making bowls, vessels, fibre art objects, and also in nuno felt designs too.

You will be creating pre-felt in colours of your choice to use in process of wet felting your project in the workshop.

You'll then use your pre-felt to create your picture design or 3D vessel/object, learning how to assemble and incorporate pre felts into your wet felted items.

As a 'bonus' in this workshop, we will also have opportunity to see how edge embellishments are created (eg ruffles, ripples, and tassels), how inclusions are incorporated (eg waves which come out of the picture, material pieces included for texture, etc), and felt 'rope' added for decor or for function (eg a bag handle or hanging loop).

This is a truly creative felt-making day, suitable for people who have a small amount of wet felting experience. (We have introductory workshops for the fundamentals of wet felting - please click 'Chat with the Maker' if you are unsure which workshop would be the most suitable for you to attend).

This class is suitable for adults in a group of 4 (maximum)

Price includes all the materials to make a 2D picture project or a 3D vessel or fibre art object. You will spend the first part of the day designing your project and then creating the pre felts which you will need. Then the second part of the day will be spent assembling and wet felting your project.

Everything you need for this workshop will be supplied except an apron which you may like to bring or please wear clothes suitable for crafting.

Wet-felting can be quite physically hard work so help is always available if you should need or want some extra oomph! and we adapt how we work to be fully inclusive.

You may want to do more work on finishing your fibre art felt pieces after the workshop.

Hot and cold drinks are available throughout the session. Please bring lunch, snacks and any other refreshments which you would like.

Buying as a gift? Want to buy for a special occasion and would like help making the day even more special? Can't see a suitable date? Please click 'Chat with the Maker' - always happy to help!

Having enjoyed a day acquiring the basic skills of wet felting with Sally I couldn't wait to return and tackle Nuno felting. I expected basic tuition but the day was structured specifically for my personal ambitions and dilemmas. I came away with an understanding of the basic techniques of nuno, but so, so much more. I learnt how to create raised forms which I can incorporate into my usual practice as a textile artist and a whole raft of problems I have encountered were solved. The day was exciting with achieving a good understanding of the basics but having my eyes opened to a new range of possibilities for future work as well, both with felting and my normal textile art. It was an exhausting but exciting day, tailored to my specific needs and I came away bursting with new ideas and skills, and the confidence to continue on my own. And if I hit problems I know I have Sally's support to guide me through. A wonderful day!

Response from Craft Workshops:

Thank you Rosemary - I am very excited to see more of your fibre art and very pleased to have been able to help with some issues, guidance and techniques.
I look forward to seeing you (and your art) again very soon - can't wait to see how you develop it from here on.

Attended the wet felting workshop last week and I wasn’t disappointed. It isn’t the first course of Sally’s that I’ve attended and as previously it was so well organised. The joining instructions include everything you could possibly want to know beforehand and the course was specific to my needs. I came away with a piece of felting that I can further embellish with embroidery etc. I loved it and it was fun!
Thank you.
See you again xx

Response from Craft Workshops:

Thank you Sally - it was lovely to see you again and your wet felted picture is great. Looking forward to seeing it in due course when it is fully finished.

I had a wonderful day with Sally and had arrived as a complete novice. Sally was super organised and all work stations were socially distanced, well stocked and ready to go - the day was structured and learnt a load more than expected and found I really enjoyed the process of making a wet felt picture - great day thanks again!!

Response from Craft Workshops:

Thanks Jen - it was a lovely day, and I hope to see you again soon.

This course was exciting with instant and stunning results. I still can't believe I made three good things in one day! Being told what to do step by step was so reassuring and Sally could spot errors we were unaware of and point us in the correct direction before we ruined our work, that sort of experience would have taken me years to gain, if I had the time to do it! Hugely valuable.

Earlier this year I attended one of Sally’s needle felting courses and loved it! Last Saturday a friend and I did the wet felting course and loved it equally as much!
Sally is a wonderful teacher, very patient and encouraging, with a really good sense of humour! We all went home with a picture, a small pot and a bowl ( mine not really a bowl but a nice piece of felt!!) I would definitely recommend Sally’s courses and will be booking more in the future.
Thank you Sally.

I attended this course on 13th July 2019 as a follow on to a previous needle felting day with Sally to refresh the process of both needle and wet felting.
It is the third course I have done with Sally and I cannot recommend them enough. It is a very relaxed small group session which means that Sally is able to offer everyone individual tuition as needed.
She provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere along with a good sense of humour. Whether you are a beginner or more experienced there is alway something to learn from Sally’s expertise and she is happy to share all her knowledge openly and encourages you to continue with your chosen craft.
Each day offers a variety of projects so everyone can have a choice and work at their own speed which is brilliant rather than all doing the same thing.
I recommend Sally’s courses and will be booking more in the future and attending her Sunday follow up craft sessions.

This course is fantastic in all respects. Sally provided all materials necessary (and more) for you to be able to produce a really substantial piece of art. She is a talented tutor who guided me expertly through each stage, and insisted on supplying me with tea and coffee all day and wouldn’t even let me clear up. The premises were ideal and we had a lovely self contained room for us to work.
All in all, an fabulous day, excellent value and I came away with a new skill I am thrilled about.
Will be booking on another course soon!
Thank you Sally x

A thoroughly satisfying and informative workshop. Thank you Sally for a great session wet felting. I had no idea how to do it before but Sally was patient, encouraging and a great teacher. The day went very swiftly and after as much tea or coffee as we wanted, plus all the materials we needed, we all were very successful with our final pieces. I loved the day and would definitely do another.

Response from Craft Workshops:

Eliana - - #15543

Attended this class yesterday and completely loved it. Sally made the class completely accessible to beginners and encouraged our own creativity whilst guiding us with the technical side of things.

With the chance to try a sample piece first we could try out some different ideas without committing to a final piece, which was a great aspect.

Really pleased with how my final picture came out and this is definitely down to the excellent guidance and advice along the way from Sally.

Would definitely return for another class! Thank you so much xx

Response from Craft Workshops:

Thank you for attending the Wet Felting course Eliana - it was great to meet you and I am very pleased you enjoyed the course. Your wet felted pieces were fantastic! Look forward to seeing you again soon.
