Weaving for beginners and intermediates on four shaft looms at Flight Weaving Studio
Contact course provider
About the Course
The two day weaving workshops, for up to four people, are generally held on the second weekend of the month and rotate through a variety of subjects; these are flexible should the class participants prefer an alternative.
The workshop focuses on introducing the student to simple design, dressing the loom and good weaving practise; it is suitable for beginners, those with some basic knowledge or those who have woven in the past but would like a refresher session. Day one concentrates on designing and winding your warp and dressing the loom. Day two is dedicated to weaving; beginning with a short period of experimentation, the student, with the consultation of the tutor, will decide how their fabric is to progress. The student will leave the class with a completed scarf or sample length of cloth that can be used to make, for example, a cushion.
The classes are taught by Janis Embleton of Flight Weaving, a highly experienced teacher and professional weaver with over twenty years experience.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above or telephone us. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
All materials are included in the price of the class. Tea, coffee and refreshments are provided throughout the day and specific dietary requirements can be catered for. Students are asked to provide their own packed lunch; there are no shops in the village so it is important that each student provides their own food.
I have had two days of one to one tuition with Janis at Flight Weaving and I've had a ball!
Janis made me feel very relaxed in her lovely studio and nothing was too much trouble. She obviously has a huge knowledge of weaving and was happy to share that knowledge with me. The loom I used was excellent quality as were the yarns and the range to choose from was fantastic, a real feast of colour and texture. If you decide to get weaving tuition from Janis I can guarantee you won't be disappointed, but be warned you'll want your own loom by the time you leave!
