Duration: 1 day
at Cowshed Creative (Kentmere Farm Pods and Creative Courses)
About the Course
Develop watercolour painting skills to work outdoors capturing the natural beauty of the landscape with a focus on skies and fells. The day will combine practical painting and drawing exercises indoors at The Cowshed and outdoors in the beautiful landscape of the Kentmere valley.
Improve your skills in composition, washes, working with layers and wet in wet techniques. You will learn to simplify your subject and develop your palette and colour mixing skills.
The emphasis is very much on practical individual experience. Karen Lester will guide and support you throughout the day using demonstrations, discussions, and example work. Karen enjoys working with a range of painting and drawing media including printmaking, sometimes combining these to create mixed media images. Each type of medium brings its own exciting possibilities and unique qualities, something she continually explores. Her studio base is in the South Lake District, an area where she can spend time immersed in the landscape, a source of endless inspiration. Her work has been exhibited in galleries throughout the North West over the last 25 years and she has been involved with projects including Printfest, C-Art and Go Herdwick.
Karen is an experienced qualified teacher and has been teaching in the adult education
sector since 2011
This workshop will be at Cowshed Creative, based in a traditional converted Lakeland barn at Browfoot Farm. The art studio is a stunning open plan space with plenty of room to wander outside and take inspiration from the amazing Lakeland landscape and environment of the peaceful Kentmere valley.
All our tutors are carefully selected professionals and experts with extensive teaching experience. Whilst this is a new venture, George, who has set up Cowshed Creative, has many years of experience programming and running creative courses at the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal and for Cumbria Adult Education.
