In-person course

Clay workshop - make and decorate a ceramic platter or vase. Focus: slab technique & surface decoration

About the Course

Working in an informal studio environment, above an antique furniture restorer, local artist-teacher Louise Gridley will guide you through the making and decoration processes using clay. Make your ceramic outcome for yourself or as a personalised gift. Workshops are suitable for all abilities.

In this workshop you will use the slab technique to make a cylindrical vase. You will decorate the surface using coloured slips and a variety of surface decoration techniques including using sgrafitto stamping, imprinting and stencilling. All ceramic ware is bisque fired and glazed with a clear glaze to enhance the beauty of the colours used. Fired outcomes can be picked up from the studio at a later date by prior arrangement. Alternatively, postal service is available at a small, additional cost.

Engage your 'inner creativity' and enjoy the calming, therapeutic qualities of working 'hands-on' with clay.

Parking is available for those arriving by car. Accessible by train also.

Louise has been teaching Art since 2001; she is a practicing artist who loves to engage her local community through the arts. She has experience of teaching art to all ages and abilities through her work in the primary, secondary and further education sectors. She is passionate about the arts and loves engaging others through her energetic, fun teaching approach.
