About the Course
We are offering an upholstery skills workshops suitable for beginners or those with some experience which lasts one day over 5 hours with a break for lunch.
You will work at your own level for an enjoyable experience, you can be a complete starter or have already completed some projects. The workshops are friendly and informal and will accommodate 2-3 people in a small group to ensure that everyone gets enough instruction.
The workshop content will be on the upholstery techniques needed to strip and recover a drop-in seat or chair seat. We will go through the use of fabrics, suppliers and techniques to achieve the best look.
You will be guided through to complete your project, although it may not be possible to complete your project in one day depending on your project and experience, but we are available for follow up via phone consultation should it not be finished.
There is local street parking nearby, but not directly at the venue. So please make sure that it is something that you can carry. As a rule if you couldn't bring it on public transport, then it's too big!
You need to supply your own fabric and trims. If you need any help with your fabric please contact us before the workshop as we may be able to supply fabric and trim at a small extra cost from our stock. If you have difficulty finding a suitable chair we may be able to provide one at cost from our stock, advance notice is required for this to ensure supplies on the day.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
The fee includes all tuition, use of tools, tea, coffee and biscuits, and an 'afternoon tea' will be taken at Mr Lyons Tea Room next door. Vegan, vegetarian and gluten free diets can be catered for with advance notice.
We will provide all the tools that you need on the day and depending on your project any extra materials can be purchased from our stock on the day of the workshop.
Any question? Feel free to contact us. Please get in touch for details and bookings. Hope to see you soon.
NB If you have already booked on to a course but cannot see the date on this page, that will be because the workshop is full.
Really enjoyed this class. Anne is an excellent teacher, and we had an absolutely delightful day. Nothing phased Anne, even my very ambitious choice of chair!! She was very patient and helpful throughout. Brilliant company and a wonderful lunch. Highly recommended this if you would like to learn to upholster, or have a piece of furniture you want to give new life to, or also just a really lovely and productive way to spend a day. I would definitely book again.

Response from The Little Vintage House:Thank you for your lovely review, it was great to meet you on Saturday and a most enjoyable afternoon. You did extremely well on a difficult project, and to get it to the standard you achieved in such a short time was a credit to you. I hope you have many more hours fun upholstering chairs. Best wishes, Anne
What a lovely way to spend a Saturday! As a complete novice, I was worried about what kind of result I would have upholstering my first chair but Anne put me completely at my ease. She is extremely knowledgable and patient and took me through each phase at my own pace. I left with a chair that I am very proud of and the confidence to tackle upholstery again - thank you Anne!
The afternoon tea at Mrs Lyons tea room is also lovely!

Response from The Little Vintage House:Thank you for a lovely review. It was great to meet you yesterday and I loved your transformation from a seagrass seat to a fully upholstered one, in your beautiful vintage Laura Ashley fabric. Good luck with all your future projects. Best wishes Anne
Really enjoyed the course yesterday but more importantly I learnt a lot from Ann. I love the chair I completed on the day and I am ready to start my next one.
Would definitely recommend this one day workshop to anyone and the afternoon tea was fab. Thanks Jeanette

Response from The Little Vintage House:Hi Jeanette. It was lovely to meet you yesterday, and seeing how fabulous your chair turned out was a real treat. Thank you for leaving a review! Best wishes Anne
I attended this course with my two daughters & we had such a lovely day with Anne! Anne is a very experienced upholsterer who shares her knowledge & experience in a warm, friendly & positive way. The course was informative, professional & fun! The added bonus of having an ‘afternoon tea’ lunch included was a very welcome touch. Anne is a very encouraging tutor & it felt like enjoying a day with a lovely new friend whilst learning a new skill. The small group size meant we all got individual tuition, which was invaluable. I would definitely recommend this reasonably priced course to anyone wanting to learn the basic skills of upholstery, or to enhance their existing skills. Fab to go home with a new chair too! Thanks again Anne - we will return!
