Course Length: Two days

A very popular course as an introduction or a refresher – a chance to learn this fascinating technique and discover how to make beautiful original prints from everyday materials.
To ensure everyone has support and good access to the printing presses, numbers are limited to 5 per course, teaching is tailored to the needs of individual students and everyone is encouraged to share ideas and learn from each other in a friendly group.
The approach is experimental, there really is no such thing as a mistake and it is great to observe the excitement of discovery as students get the hang of collagraph printmaking and explore the possibilities it holds.
The first day is spent making plates, using card, cement, glue, grit and various found materials. The course covers basic plate making techniques such as masking, layering, cutting into the surface, and the always popular dribbly glue.
You will understand how to create texture and line as well as tones from very dark to very light in your plates using a combination of everyday materials like sticky tape, sand paper.
On the second day we print; combining colours, intaglio and relief techniques, chine collee, masking and overprinting, and possibly a bit of viscosity…..
Suitable for beginners or those with some experience of printmaking.
What's included in the price?
The cost includes unlimited paper, inks, tea and biscuits; you don't need to bring anything apart from a packed lunch.
Each student leaves with a mini portfolio of about 10 - 15 original prints and several printing plates which can be developed int further work.
