About the Course
Quilting workshop for confident beginners at the Ceridwen Centre, Drefach Felindre. Course offered by Make it in Wales.
You will have two days of tuition with Lesley Jenkins, learning quilting techniques which will allow you to produce a square quilt approximately 80 centimeters square. The quilt will be inspired from a traditional 19th century Welsh design. We will be providing Welsh flannel fabrics for the quilt woven at our local Woollen Mill – Melin Teifi.
You will learn stitching techniques (machine) and hand stitching to complete your quilt.
The materials which are included in the cost of this course include traditional Welsh tweed wool fabrics woven on the premises at Melin Teifi, wadding and cotton backing and all threads for machine and hand quilting. You must have knowledge of how to use a sewing machine.
What will you be doing on the course?
We will prepare our chosen fabric and cut out the pieces using a rotary cutter. The quilt top will be machine pieced to make piecing the quilt easier. Lesley will demonstrate quick methods of creating a square in a square and half square triangles. Borders will be added and finally the quilt top will be sandwiched for quilting.
Quilting designs will be discussed and drawn on to the quilt top. You will mark up your quilt and begin to hand quilt your design. There will not be time to finish the quilt during the day. However, you will be shown how to finish your quilt and add a hanging sleeve if you wish to display it as a piece of art.

This was an excellent two day course. Lesley was a very patient and extremely good teacher. The venue was very good and there was plenty of tea and coffee throughout the day. The material was beautiful wool from the local woollen mill and there was a good choice of colour mixes. I was delighted with the results - although the actual matching and making was much harder than I thought it would be. The whole experience was very rewarding and I would highly recommend it, as I would all the Make It In Wales courses.

Had a fabulous 3 days on this course. Our tutor was really knowledgeable and more importantly for me in any case very patient. There are the things that may have improved the course the first was having our own cutting boards and the second was having a bit more time to practice the quilting techniques themselves although I think we were probably slower than other courses. So as I said a fabulous two days, a lovely tutor and lovely venue. Will definitly come again.

Really enjoyed the course and I was disappointed that I could not attend the second day. The venue was good and the lunch very tasty! Suzi and Lesley were friendly and the class size was just right. The only thing I would have liked would have been pre-printed measurements and instructions to work along to and take away.
