Gain the knowledge and practical experience to build your own stone wall using traditional methods, including delicious lunch.
About this Event
Ever wanted to build your own garden wall, maybe as part of a rockery or terrace? Fancy a day out with friends or family learning these 'almost lost' practical skills 'hands-on' in the countryside.
The skills of selecting and placing the right stones in the right place to ensure strength and character, to mix mortar and to keep the wall straight and level, have to be learned and honed. This is your opportunity to learn from a skilled craftsman, James Spurgeon; a local character and let's say 'stone-wall artist'.
Enjoy this day in a small group, outside in the beautiful Brendon Hills of West Somerset. With delicious artisan, locally sourced refreshments and lunch, you'll have the energy and skills you need to start mastering this skill.
This is a course for participants 18 years and over. It will require a certain degree of physical strength and mobility in order to lift stones and use equipment.
What to bring?
You will need to wear appropriate clothing for all weather eventualities (as the course is held outside). We recommend wearing gloves, trousers and sturdy boots or shoes (steel-toe cap if you have them) to protect your hands, legs and feet. You could also bring knee pads or a kneeler and goggles or sunglasses if you wish. You will need a mask, not just for Covid 19 reasons, but also to protect against lime mortar dust.
