Where is the line between semi-abstract work and a 'loose' painting? This workshop is designed to assist towards understanding this interesting subject by looking at artists' work, including Annie's own forays into abstraction, followed by a simple exercise to start the process before beginning a painting. There will be plenty of reference material if inspiration is needed, but do bring along sketches/images if you have something in mind.
Tutor: Annie Monk
Date & Time: Mon 7th Aug, 10am - 4pm
Venue: Bingham Studio, New Brewery Arts
PRICE: £80 (£0.00 VAT)
Although not suitable for the complete beginner all abilities are welcome
Annie began painting in 1989. Largely self-taught, she initially attended tutored classes and then progressed by experimental work in her home studio in order to develop her individual style. She has been tutoring workshops and courses since 2002. For some years Annie enjoyed painting with soft pastels, after which she began working with acrylics and found that their versatile properties were ideal for experimentation and a range of different techniques. She now works exclusively with acrylics and mixed media i.e. inks, oil pastels, collage. She paints quickly and instinctively, often from imagination, allowing her pictures to evolve. Annie is motivated by strong colour and believes her subject matter - landscape, seascape or still life - is secondary to colour, texture and design
