Tote box - 5 day - dovetailed box with hand-shaped handle

Over 5 days, we will help you make a beautiful and functional box, while introducing you to some more advanced woodworking techniques you may not have tried before, such as making hand-cut dovetails, and hand-shaping using a spokeshave. We will provide all the tools you need for the course, and you can bring your own if you prefer. Through making the box, you will try different ways of planing, sanding, cutting dovetails, mortices and wedges, and finishing so that, at the end of the course, you will have developed or refined a number of skills that should help with future woodworking projects. We will also share our professional methods for keeping your tools in perfect order to achieve the precision required in fine furniture making. At the end of the course, you will have developed or refined a number of skills that should help with future woodworking projects, and you will of course take home the result of your week’s work to use for decades to come.

All materials and tools for the duration of the course are included. If you would like to bring your own tools, we can show you how to set them up for fine, precision work. The Atlantic Makers Collective (Atlantic Makers Ltd) was formed in 2020 in Bude, North Cornwall. The four directors share a passion for making fine furniture and we sought to build a workshop that not only produces exceptional furniture, but also benefits the local community. At the heart of this principle is sharing our resources and skills with talented, local makers and providing the space, facilities and support to help them grow their own businesses. We design and manufacture bespoke furniture for private and commercial clients, and run short-courses to inspire and nurture a love of woodworking. We also work with other designers and workshops to manufacture their furniture here in Cornwall. Our profits are used to grow the business, to support other makers within the Collective, and to employ and train Junior Makers and give them a strong start in the furniture-making industry.
