About the Course
Students will be shown how to centre the clay, throw a few simple bowls and/or cups, and use coloured clay slips to decorate their creations. The finished pots will be glazed and fired for you and will be available for you to pick up at a later date.
There are two workshops to choose from, 10am until 12pm or 3pm until 5pm. There will be places for up to 4 students on each session at £30 each which covers all materials and firing costs. Please be aware that full payment is required to guarantee your place on the course. Light refreshments and snacks will also be included.
It is advisable to wear clothes you don’t mind getting clay on, however, some rather fetching plastic aprons will be provided. Please feel free to bring along your own apron if you prefer.
*** This is a very short taster session to find out whether throwing appeals to you. If you want to delve in a bit further take a look at my weekend ‘Introduction to Throwing’ courses ***

About the tutor:
After graduating from the 3D Design course at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2005, I moved back to Wales to establish a workshop on the family farm near Aberystwyth. I made wood-fired stoneware pots and made my own ash based glazes.
After working in the Peak District for many years, I moved in 2018 to my new studio in Sowerby Bridge (near Halifax), where I now make earthenware tiles based on medieval designs. I still make pots and once a year I take a selection of pots down to Wales to fire in the wood-firing kiln.
If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
What's included in the price?
All materials, equipment and tools will be provided, along with light refreshments and snacks. Plastic disposable aprons will also be provided, however please feel free to bring your own apron - and wear suitable clothing (clay can be very messy!)
Great fun, would like to come back and have another go.

Great fun. Deiniol was very patient!
Pete Rhodes - - #22028
Really enjoyed it. I'm seriously thinking of going back for a longer session later in the year, or trying one of the evening sessions. Deiniol was very helpful, supportive and an excellent teacher.
I would recommend it to anyone who wants to try throwing pots and as a complete beginner, definitely in the "senior" age range, I managed to produce three fairly different bowls in the two-hour session, including one I thought was quite good!

Great explanation and demonstrations. Loved this hands on experience of making something.

Deiniol was approachable, competent and really patient with attendees. The course is well worth doing and gives a good idea as to whether you want top learn more, carry on learning in the future
