Course Start Dates
About the Course
Students will be shown how to centre the clay, throw a few simple bowls, and use coloured clay slips to decorate their creations. The finished pots will be glazed and fired for you and will be available for you to pick up at a later date.
There will be places for up to 4 students on each session at £30 each which covers all materials and firing costs. Please be aware that full payment is required to guarantee your place on the course. Light refreshments and snacks will also be included.
It is advisable to wear clothes you don’t mind getting clay on, however aprons will be provided. Please be aware that sitting at the pottery wheel for a prolonged period can exacerbate back problems - please get in touch if this is a concern.
This is a very short taster session to find out whether throwing appeals to you. If you want to delve in a bit further take a look at my other courses on the links below.

Taster session 1/2/20. A very enjoyable and informative introduction to throwing in Deiniol's studio. Deiniol guided us through the stages of creating a bowl. Very impressed that we all managed a second bowl.

Response from Deiniol Williams Ceramics:Thank you for the review Vicky! I'm glad that you managed to make two bowls as it's a tricky skill to learn :)
Thank you so much Deiniol for your patience. As a complete beginner I was thrilled to throw a pot which actually resembled a pot! I would love to come back and try it again. I thoroughly enjoyed the taster session.
Susan Hamilton - - #27937
Response from Deiniol Williams Ceramics:Thanks Sue, hope you can come back for another course in the future!
Had the beginners taster this morning. I absolutely loved it. So much fun and really pleased with the bowls I made. Deiniol was very good at demonstrating the basics and great guidance while we were having a go. I had such a great morning and I can’t wait to pick up my glazed bowls. Will be booking onto one of the full day courses for certain. Thank you so much.

Great morning learning the basics. The teaching was clear and well-paced. Loved the chance to actually produce two bowls after just two hours. I’m looking forward to returning to do a longer course.
Danielle - - #27041
Response from Deiniol Williams Ceramics:Glad to hear that you're thinking of coming back for one of the longer courses Danielle!
Really enjoyed the morning. Deiniol took the time to show us what we would need to do to create and decorate a bowl, then talked us through step by step actually creating a bowl and then allowed us to see what we had learnt by creating another bowl. Excellent couple of hours
Jen Horsley - - #27031
Response from Deiniol Williams Ceramics:Thanks Jen!
I attended Deiniol's 2 hour `Taster Class' with my husband, 12yrs and 15yrs old children.
We had a fantastic time, very enjoyable experience. You could tell Deiniol has teaching experience and was very patient with us all especially the children. After a step by step demonstration we all got stuck in and managed to produce two items each.
Would definitely have another go and can see that this could very easily become a very enjoyable hobby!

Really enjoyed it. I'm seriously thinking of going back for a longer session later in the year, or trying one of the evening sessions. Deiniol was very helpful, supportive and an excellent teacher.
I would recommend it to anyone who wants to try throwing pots and as a complete beginner, definitely in the "senior" age range, I managed to produce three fairly different bowls in the two-hour session, including one I thought was quite good!
