Description

This online course and kit contains everything you need to weave your own traditional willow shopping basket, and it has been specially designed so that you can do it all at home at your own pace. Students get lifetime access to our 2.5-hour online video course, which is produced by our BAFTA-winning team of filmmakers, plus all the materials you need will be delivered straight to your door. You won't have to schedule a class , travel or book time away. This course and kit is the perfect introduction to this wonderful ancient craft and by the end you’ll be able to make a variety of round baskets in any size you like. It makes a fantastic present for a loved one who wants to learn to do something with their hands and it's great to do in groups. During the course you will learn how to: - Select and prepare your willow for weaving - Make a round basket base - a core skill for beginner basket makers. - Put on uprights - Weave a 'waling' pattern on the bottom of the basket to secure the uprights. - Weave a beautiful 'French Rand' pattern up the sides of the basket. - Weave the 'border' which is the ornate rim around the top of the basket. - Weave a willow handle complete with herringbone pattern to finish it off. What's included in the price?

Lifetime access to our 2.5 hour online course - you can log in a view on any device. In your kit: three bunches of high-quality buff willow weaving rods in different sizes (all sustainably grown in Somerset), a special soaking bag (you use this to soak your willow for a couple of hours before weaving).

What you will need

We design all our projects to be done with minimal tools. You'll need a pair of garden secateurs or snippers - that's all. Your shopping basket will take about 4 hours to complete. You can either do this in one long afternoon session or you can split it up into three shorter sessions on separate days.
