A day studying and enjoying the life and work of David Hockney, arguably Britain’s greatest living painter. During the day we will examine the life and work of this great artists. Starting with his early years in Bradford and his education at the RCA in London, through the move to Los Angles and concluding with his exhibition of landscapes at the RA and his experiments with digital media. The themes we will cover include how the artist portrayed his own sexuality, his time as one of the eminent portrait painters, Hockney’s “conversations” with Picasso and Matisse and the artists passion for landscape.

Paul Chapman is an Art Historian and a National Gallery trained guide with many years of experience working in education. As a freelance Paul delivers courses and lectures for a wide range of educational organisations including NADFAS, WEA and U3A. Paul has also given talks and tours for art associations/societies and is a guest speaker in local schools giving talks and assisting pupils with their art history projects. Paul has a long standing commitment, in conjunction with the N.G as a tour guide at the Longford Castle art collection and he is also tutor at MCSS.

You can turn any of our courses into a short break by staying in our on site accommodation. When you book a residential package you will get discounted accommodation in our stylish boutique hostel located in the centre of Cirencester in the Cotswolds right next door to New Brewery Arts. Our former 19th Century Cotswold stone brewery barrel store has been beautifully transformed into 21st century accommodation, light and well-appointed with a craftsman’s attention to detail. We offer guest accommodation for up to 43 people over two floors in 14 rooms, with a choice of single, bunk, family and double bedrooms, 12 with en-suite facilities. A ground floor disabled-friendly room is also available. The hostel provides a stylish communal dining and relaxation area, self-catering kitchen, laundry facilities and lockers for your bike. As with all our courses and workshops these are led by experienced tutors and as you will be part of a small group there is plenty of time to focus on you.
