About the Course

This course is designed for people who would like to continue making jewellery at home, each week will cover a different topic giving you more in depth knowledge and trouble shooting abilities for the inevitable mishaps... I will also give you advice on making you're own collapsible kitchen workshop (where all the best jewellers start)

The lessons will be as follows-

Week 1- Wax carving
You will use ancient techniques to carve wax into a three dimensional charm. I will then take your pieces to be cast in silver to be cast ready to solder them in week 4.

Week 2- Texturing
You will use rolling mills and stamps to texture a flat piece of metal which you can then make in to a piece of jewellery in week 3.

Week 3- Saw piercing
After practicing straight curved and zig zag lines on some copper, you will use your saw to cut out shapes from your textured metal.

Week 4- Soldering
This week I will teach you about soldering, there is a lot that can go wrong with soldering so I'm going to let you make all those mistakes when I'm there so you can learn how to avoid them! You will also solder the findings onto your cast charm and assemble your textured piece.

Week 5- Stone setting
This week I will show you how to make a simple cabochon setting which you can make in to a brooch or pendant.

Week 6- Polishing
This week we will go through various polishing techniques, I will show you how to use the polisher but as this is not a realistic option for the beginner jeweller to buy I will give you other options too.

If booking with a CraftCourses voucher for part or all of the course fee, please fill in the contact form above. Your voucher code must be provided at the point of booking.
