About the Course
If you love premium soy wax candles, and designer style fragrances, you’ll be pleased to hear that we run successful candle making courses in our factory in Newcastle upon Tyne!
Founded from a kitchen table in Gosforth, Urban Candle Co has organically grown to become a much loved candle manufacturer in Newcastle. We use natural pure soy wax, and high quality UK made (non-animal tested) fragrance oils, to bring you a collection of designer inspired, premium candles.
We’re delighted to bring you our Candle Making Experience for 2019. The candle making experience lasts around 1.5 hours, and during the experience you’ll gain an insight and understanding into the art of premium candle making. You’ll expertly make 3 beautiful candle products, (subject to change) including a signature 40 hour candle, a tube of 3pk maxi light candles and an Urban Candle tin. We use designer inspired fragrances (including Lime, Basil & Mandarin, Bamboo & Grapefruit, Basil & Neroli and Sea Salt & Sage) plus of course a range of premium in-season additions.

I attended this candle making course with my mum as a birthday present. Pros first: Matthew has a lot of knowledge about candle making which he shared with us but overall we were very disappointed in this course and did not feel that it was worth £70 for the following reasons:
- there was very poor communication from the candle making company - we didn't get any welcome email confirming we would both be attending the course, my emails, texts, phone calls were not returned so until the day we turned up we didn't know if we had both been booked on to attend
- there was a delay in us receiving our products. On two occasions we were told when we would get our candles and on both occasions, I had to chase for an update and kept chasing until we eventually got them after no-shows from the company
- two of our candles were missing - we each made 4 maxi lights but only 3 maxi lights each were delivered (I did not bother to chase the company for the missing candles as I have no hope that they would respond to my email or phone call).
The course is not worth the price we paid especially since we did not get 2 of the candles we made and the service/communication from the company was so poor. The poor communication especially took away from the enjoyment of the course, which we had been looking forward to for quite some time.

Response from Urban Candle Company Ltd:Firstly, I confirmed your booking with us, for clarification, it was sent on the 18th July at 19.10pm. All information is shown on the crafty courses web page, and also on our website Secondly commend negatively on the delivery of your products. As gesture of good will and as the factory is on reduced opening hours over the summer (as I also mentioned) I said I would deliver them to you as we live close by. There was a few days delay but I explained this to you and apologised as you are aware, I was travelling most of the week on business. Thirdly, you comment on the you being a maxi light missing. You fail to mention however that you made approximately £55 worth of products each (at retail price) and the Maxi Light that you refer to (the small 12 hour tea light) one of which was missing. We always make 4 maxi lights as they can be prone to cracking (as i believe we discussed during the course) so the standard is 3 of those particular products.
