About the Course
Suitable for those with advanced textiles experience, a degree, or completion of the Textiles Foundation course who wish to further their practice. Entry is by informal interview with a portfolio of recent work.
Create textiles in a stimulating and sympathetic environment developing your own projects with a view to exhibiting and working to commission. Special attention will be given to current exhibitions, study days and current textiles practice. This course is suitable for those with advanced textiles experience, such as a degree, or who have completed the Textiles Foundation course, who wish to further their practice in this and related areas including preparing a professional portfolio. The group hold an end of year exhibition and participate in other opportunities arising through Morley. Entry is by informal interview with a portfolio of recent work. There is a studio fee for cloth and some specialist materials.
By the end of the course you will be able to
Develop your own historical and practical research for individual themes and ideas.
Explore and develop a range of print and dye processes.
Use a variety of constructed techniques and hand stitch.
Develop your own individual textile practice.
Class format and activities
There are a series of (optional) focus sessions on different Textile Techniques this term. There is an optional project to link all the focus sessions together.
Visits to current Textile Exhibitions arranged when appropriate.
Group discussions, Q & A, introductions to new materials and techniques, practical help with equipment and materials where necessary and appropriate.
In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.
You should have completed the Textile Foundation course at Morley College, or a B A in Textiles, or City & Guilds Certificate, or a Diploma in a Textile subject - evidence of work - informal interview with tutor.
