About the Course

A set of four textile construction workshops, that are also well suited for attendance as a progressive set of workshops. Book each session individually or book all four for a discount.

Form and Function - Seams, 10.00 – 4.00 p.m - please get in touch for future dates.

A one-day workshop exploring the form and function of seams. Based on practical demonstrations you will produce your own professionally finished sample range of functional and decorative seam types. There will also be an introduction to pattern cutting using half scale blocks demonstrating how to add seams to existing patterns.

Adding Shape - Darts Pleats and Gathers, 10.00 – 4.00 p.m, Friday 2nd February 2018

A one-day workshop exploring how shape is added to garments. Based on practical demonstrations you will produce your own professionally finished range of technical samples of adding and suppressing fullness, such as darts, pleats and gathers. Using half scale blocks there will also be a demonstration of pattern cutting methods used to manipulate darts to other parts of a garment and how to add fullness to existing seam lines.

Necklines – Facings & Collars, 10.00 – 4.00 p.m, Friday 2nd March 2018

A one-day workshop exploring methods of neckline finishing. Based on practical demonstrations you will produce professionally finished neckline samples such as a faced neckline and flat collar. Using half scale blocks there will also be a demonstration of pattern cutting methods used to change the neckline shape and make a facing pattern.

Finish and Fasten – Waistbands, Zips and Rouleau Loops, 10.00 – 4.00 p.m, Friday 6th April 2018

A one day workshop exploring how to finish and fasten garments. Based on practical demonstrations you will produce professionally finished samples of a centred and lapped zip, waistband and a finished edge closure using Rouleau loops and buttons. There will also be an introduction to making patterns to finish the waistline including facings and waistbands
